<< I've read the interview with Carolyn Myss, Ph.D.

and I must say that it made me sad. >>

Different folks, different strokes. It doesn't have the same nice " sound " ,

but different perspective might better apply here. We read the same

interview, but came away with different impressions.

<< One of the troubles with " Main stream Medicine " is it's passionate love

affair with diagnosis. >>

I agree, but the use of the word " diagnosis " in the case of mainstream

medicine is very different from Caroline's use. Traditional diagnosis might

come up with " xyz organ is enlarged; what can we do to shrink it again? "

Caroline's diagnosis would differ on several levels.

* First, ideally, she'd be diagnosing the energy body, not the physical body.

* Second, she'd be looking for WHY something is " out of whack " . It gets back

to the unfortunate tendency of allopathic medicine to focus on symptoms

rather than causes - which is Caroline's focus.

* Third, Caroline's belief is that the beliefs and postulates of the being

are senior to the energy body, which is in turn senior to the physical body.

Several years ago I read the book _Vibrational Medicine_ by Dr. Richard

Gerber. His original book was intended for people with a medical education -

which I don't have. So it was a real struggle. But he wrote that problems

first manifest in the energy body and THEN, if there is no intervention,

manifest in the physical body. I see Caroline as backing up one more level to

ascertain why the problem manifested in the energy body in the first place.

" * Third " above.

I have his next book on the same subject on order. It will arrive in just a

few days. This book is oriented toward the public. Given that orientation and

the fact that a number of years have passed since publication of the first

book, I'll be very interested to read this one. It did get top marks from

readers at Amazon. Has anyone on this list read it?

<< This has to do with a wider and deeper tendency to link security with

knowledge.

Well, diagnosis has little to do with healing. Healing can be achieved also

without diagnosis. >>

SYMPTOMS can be alleviated without knowledge of what's causing those

symptoms. But that doesn't fix the problem. Allopathic doctors are used to

taking a cook book approach. PHYSICAL symptoms x, y, and z? The book says to

prescribe drug D.

I recently joined a hypnosis e-mail list. One thread discussed the experience

that several hypnotists had had where they learned from experience. A patient

would come to them with some physical symptom. They would convince the

patient that it was better to not have THAT symptom. They'd come back 6 - 12

months later with a DIFFERENT physical symptom. This process could go on and

on ... UNTIL the common cause that was behind all of these symptoms was

discovered and dealt with. I'll come up with a hypothetical example to

illustrate the point.

In your youth you bullied your younger brother into doing a dangerous stunt.

As a result, your brother permanently damaged his back and was living with

back pain for the rest of his life. You feel a deep subconscious guilt. You

figure that if YOU were to also feel pain that would be like penance for your

youthful bad judgement. UNTIL you face up to your submerged guilt, any

" cures " to this pain or that pain in your body will only be temporary. For

your mind has the considerable ability to re-establish new pain somewhere

else in your body.

Uncovering such guilt and helping a person understand and DEAL with it, is an

example of the level where I see Caroline Myss' diagnosis operating.
