Guest guest
Can anyone tell me about the healing properties (if any) of sandalwood? I've been drawn to the scent since ill with the flu this December. Just purchased some sandalwood beads, and wonder if the fragrance will stay, or if the necklace will need 'refreshing'. Also, I've heard of energy work causing battery-powered watches to stop. I have a wind-up watch that has recently begun acting odd (slowing down or stopping completely), and wondered if this, too, could be from Reiki. Sandalwood Latin name: Santalum album Digestive: Stimulates the production of gastric juices (carminative), relaxes the digestive muscles. Used to treat diarrhoea, nausea, colic, gastritis. Genito-urinary: stimulates the production of urine (diuretic). Antiseptic, used to treat genito-urinary infections. especially chronic ones. Used to treat gonorrhoea; it is more of a male remedy, but can be also used for leucorrhoea. Muscles/joints: relaxes the muscles. Respiratory: antispasmodic, antiseptic, helps to expel mucus, used to treat bronchitis, catarrh, coughs, laryngitis, sore throat. Skin/hair: antiseptic, astringent, anti-inflammatory, mildly pain-relieving, stimulates cellular regeneration and assists in the healing of wounds and scars. Used to treat acne and wrinkles. Moisturizing, perfect for dry skin (but can be used for all skin types). Emotions/mind: sedative and tonic, used for nervous tension, stress, anxiety, and depression. Subdues agression and irritability, promotes compassion and openness, clears thought processes, fosters awareness - no wonder it's been used as a meditation aid for centuries! According to a friend, it helps to make dreams more vivid. In India it was said to promote the awakening of the kundalini. Other: aphrodisiac. Used for earaches. I have a wind-up watch that has recently begun acting odd I was told when I was first attuned to Reiki to remove watches because they would stop or in some way be affected by the energy. I can see this could happen since it is electrical in nature. But, I've never had it happen either during treatments, giving and receiving, or during attunements, giving and receiving. I used to wear my watch all the time...no longer do, but that is because I'm a massage therapist and don't wear a watch only for that reason. I can't see that the electrical nature of the energy would affect a wind-up watch - does it act odd when you are not doing/receiving Reiki? Of course, that might be a difficult question to answer if you are like me...Reiki runs most all of the time because it is simply a way of life with me. -- Janie Walk softly, Live gently ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Usui Reiki Ryoho and Seichem Classes In person - New Jersey ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Any idea seriously entertained tends to bring about the realization of itself. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Guest guest
Hi Florie, Scents do fade over time, so you'll probably need to refresh the beads. I believe that being drawn to foods, scents or actually anything in our lives is something to pay close attention to. It can help prevent a disorder that may be forming or have some other purpose. One thing I've found is that cravings are always there to meet a need. It's just that we sometimes misinterpret those signals and go towards something that fulfills the need, but creates other problems along with it. So the trick is to find healthy ways of meeting those needs. For instance, I have always craved fatty foods - french fries and butter especially (I shutter to think of what I used to eat in my younger days). I never gained weight so I didn't know I had to be concerned about it. But now I realize not only how bad it was for my health, but I also have come to realize that my body was crying out for healthy fats - the EFA's - because my brain and heart needed them. I just didn't know about them at the time and so I went for the only thing that sated the craving. It's very important to listen to our body's signals. I advocate that people do a body scan every morning - sit still and go from head to toe, asking yourself what you most need for that day. You will get information back on vitamins you need, herbs, fragrances, how much energy would be good for you to expend that day, etc. Each time you do it, you become more sensitive to the clues. Sandalwood is often used for meditation, are you meditating as much as you would like? Linda " Richard M.
