Guest guest
Hi Gina, As others have said, RECOGNIZING a situation you want to be different is very positive first step. Reaching out is another smart move. Reaching out is one form of you being in control - you're ACTIVELY taking a first step to improve your life. Perhaps a tad of bad news is that true gurus are hard to find. For example, I will confess to NOT being a guru on any of your concerns. <G> But if you piece together suggestions that you get from list participants which make sense to you, then you'll likely have your own system that will help you. Now, with all that out of the way, here are some thoughts from me. An adequate supply of B vitamins are necessary for both a good mood AND burning calories. As I understand it, B vitamins are like the spark plugs in a car - necessary to " ignite " the burning process. If you choose to supplement, I suggest taking a supplement that has all the B vitamins. It's dicey to try to self medicate with individual B vitamins. Speaking of vitamins, a family in my town has been in the porta potty rental business for decades. They tell me they routinely see undigested cheap vitamins in the waste. Often they can still read the brand names on the vitamins. America is overweight. I feel that one contributing factor is empty calories - junk food. To illustrate how this works, let's say that your body needs 100 mg of vitamin X. One serving of product ABC contains 100 calories and 20 mg of vitamin X. One serving of product DEF contains 100 calories and 100 mg of vitamin X. Your body might try to persuade you to eat 5 servings of ABC, or 500 calories worth, whereas it might be satisfied with 1 serving of DEF (100 calories). One example of a simple way to up the nutritional value of the food you (and your family) eat is to switch from white to whole grain bread. The vitamins they add back in to " enriched bread " are laughable; it's the only vitamins food science knew about five decades ago. Here's a story to illustrate the value of enriched bread: A nasty man encounters you in a big city alley late at night and demands all your money. You give it to him. But he doesn't want you chasing after him or running to a policeman as soon as he leaves, so he orders you to take off all your clothes. You comply. But as you stand there shivering in the 30 degree temperature he feels sorry for you and lets you put your socks back on. Do you feel enriched?! When you're buying food try to avoid foods where sugar or flour are at the top of the ingredient list. Most of the food value has been processed out of them. Consider buying granular fructose (twice as sweet as white sugar for the same amount) or unrefined sugar for use in your own kitchen. One benefit is that fructose is processed by the liver, not with insulin from the pancreas. Here are some tips I read recently that make sense to me. Put food that comes in pieces (like potato chips) into a bowl and then eat them out of the bowl. Don't eat in front of the TV. Keep _healthy_ snacks around. Examples would be grapes, oranges, and apples. Try hard to find exercise that you LIKE. For example, I LOVE tennis. Like I said, I'm no guru either. But perhaps you can find something that works for you amongst my suggestions. I have lots more ideas and some nifty products I've discovered, but this list is not the place for a mini book. <G> If you want to explore things further I invite you to get in touch via direct e-mail.
