Guest guest
Anat: That may be more " correct " , as it resonates more. My cats not only play with many toys (we're constantly tripping on them) one of them sets up " scenarios " with them, placing them, say, at the top of the stairs and pushing them off so she can chase them. The other cat has one toy (a decrepit, hairy old mouse with its features chewed off) that she carries like a baby, making little noises to it and putting it in the bed with us at night. Interestingly, our cats have been " apartment raised " , and although they have access to windows to see outside and love to watch the birds and feral cats, they will not eat meat of any kind, raw or cooked. Even if given canned food they will lick the gravy and leave the food. Well, occasionally I can get one of them to eat a bit of turkey if they think it has come out of my mouth, for some reason. At this point, they are so neurotic that I would be afraid to let them outdoors unless we moved to the country, and even then, supervised. (One of them has a fascination for large trucks and runs to the window to see them when she hears them lumbering by.) I have watched several nature shows about cats, and one of the statements that stuck in my head was that if we designed the perfect predator/assassin for strength, agility, stealth, speed, visual acuity, silence, skill with weapons and lack of remorse, we would create the cat. Guest guest
I think it's amusement. Sometimes it can be a form of offering like the cat that would deposit a dead mouse on my first wife's side of the bed every morning. IMHO, whomever told you that was trying to make human excuses for beings that don't require it. They're what they are. The fact is, we're closer to animals and vice versa than either of us is comfortable with. > " pine " <pine > > >Re: something about cats >Wed, 11 Apr 2001 13:01:15 +0300 > >caroline > >you said that cats kill for amusememt - like people. > >i heard they do it for practicing hunting, for learning - it's also >survival,,, >may be sort of instinct to think about the future,,, >anat > > > > > > > _______________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

I always got the distinct impression from him that he thought I was a lousy hunter, and it was his way of letting me know he was taking care of me. LOL He was so proud of himself when he caught something, he just had to show it off to me. Leslie
