Guest guest
Hi All, I was reading recently, (sorry, can't remember the author right off hand), that affirmations aren't really all that effective, but AfFORMations are. This is a phrase that he coined. His book revolves around his discovery that there are many, many highly intelligent and creative people who never seen to fulfill any of their potential. In his case, he figured out that it had to do with the fact that he is highly sensitive, and that he hadn't given himself permission to succeed. He ended up calling his father and asking him if it was OK with him if he made more money or was more successful than his father had been.....to which his father replied, " Please, son, be more successful than me " . Which is all interesting to me, but beside the point I started out to make.....(which was????)......Sooooooo......he was saying by the end of the book that it is far more affective to ask questions of the brain, which the brain then attempts to solve and that gets 'cemented' in the brain.....unlike affirmations, which tend to slide off the brain. For instance..... " Why am I so wealthy? " " Why am I so happy? " " Why am I so lucky? " " How did I find this job so quickly? " " Why do so many people love me? " You get the idea. He calls these Afformations because they re-form your life. The first thing I discovered in trying this out is that it made me feel better very quickly. Instead of being angry because I had not lost the 5 pounds I wanted to lose, I looked in the mirror and said, " Why am I so gorgeous? " It brought my energy level back up to par. I don't know if this method works long term. I am one who 'loved and left' affirmations a decade ago because they didn't work. Another intersting book on this type of thing, is Everyday Miracles, by David Spangler. I'm working with his book now. I've studied A-Hicks, Lynn Grabhorn, L. Hay, etc, etc.....and Spangler's approach to creating the life that you want resonates with me. :-) Renee

Guest guest
Hmm. I'd be interested in reading this person's work, it sounds like an intriguing idea. I like the way that ideas lead to more ideas, and this may sound fairly new but it certainly sits on the shoulders of a lot of other ideas. One thing I have learned in bodywork, but it applies to just about everything else as well... you can call something anything you like, but there is really nothing new under the sun. I spent an hour this afternoon giving myself a manicure. It may not seem like much, but it was a relaxing and methodical task and I felt very zen and pleased with my soft hands and shiny nails afterwards... maybe I should write a book about it... mani-cure-all <LOL> Second thing I've learned... if you write a book, the world will think you are an expert. You can buy a PhD for $10 and write about dog food facials, make a mint and be on a lecture tour in six months with the right promotion. Like somebody else said today, if it works, do it. ;-) One of the reasons I'm always out there reading books and doing seminars is that I hope I can pick up something new for my 'bag of tricks' to offer my clients... but another reason is less altruistic; I like to try on the new ideas to see if they fit me, if they are easier or resonate more than other things I've learned to do. Flexibility and an open mind can be more valuable than any particular program in the long run. And a lot more fun. And I don't have to ask myself why I am so amazingly gorgeous and wise... after all, I'm the Goddess of WooWoo, ain't I? ;-) The main thing I hope for is that when I get up and look in the mirror every morning, I can look that Goddess in the eye! Guest guest
Dear Renee: This is very interesting, I'm gonna try it to morrow. Hello gorgeous!. It makes a whole lot of sense. If you can find the title, I'd appreciate it. love, connie > >...Sooooooo......he > was saying by the end of the book that it is far more affective to > ask questions of the brain, which the brain then attempts to solve > and that gets 'cemented' in the brain.....unlike affirmations, which > tend to slide off the brain. Guest guest
Dear Crow: Now I'm inspired to do a mani-cure-all. Theres your concept. There has just gotta be a sweet little book in it. Soak your hands first in some luxurous aroma therapy and oil stuff. Then choose colors for your nales based on color therapy, then of course there is the corresponding mediation that you do with the colors, the oils and thoughts about hands, etc. You can call it " The spritual opportunity in every day choars " You can even throw in a tad of palm reading for fun, with info on what difficiencies come from differernt nail ridges etc. I'm seeing ya on Oprah today. Heck you might just get your own line of manicure products on Shoppers channel. See, I go off on similar tangents. LOL Love to you oh Goddess of Woo Woo. connie > I spent an hour this afternoon giving myself a manicure. Guest guest
> Crow, Everything you've said here is so true... I've often marvelled at the book phenomenon.... if someone expresses their ideas verbally most people barely listen. But if they write those same ideas down and put a cover on the pages, suddenly people think that all the words are 100% true and the author is a person with no problems whatsoever in their life. They get giddy to have a chance to talk to with the writer who they think is so far above them. I guess it's perceived authority. On another note, I would love to hear what people's favorite " Feel Good " songs are. I'm going to use some of the ideas for a project I'm working on. You can write me privately, or maybe it would be fun to read them here and reminisce?
