I'd like to suggest a new angle on the aspartame issue that's along the lines

of focus that Crow would like to see in the forum. <G> I believe that our

fast-paced society often does not listen very well ... as individuals. Our

bodies are smart enough to give us feedback regarding what's good and bad for

our bodies.

A case in point - Years ago I used to use aspartame in my ice tea at a

popular buffet restaurant. If I'd drink three glasses of ice tea, invariably

I'd get a headache. My body was sending the message. Sorry to admit, I did

not catch on as fast as I should have. But the message as there!

The point is, sometimes we may not need to worry about the veracity of a

given " authority " . We can go to our own body authority. I agree with Crow

that the article in question was not well done. But like others on this list,

I too have previously searched out and found other credible corroborating

evidence in the literature that says that aspartame is bad news.

I had a similar experience with regard to popcorn. If I'd eat too much

popcorn, I'd get a headache. I wondered, " Am I allergic to popcorn? " What a

downer that would be; I think of popcorn as a great snack food.

Then along comes some advice in the mail about how " salt " isn't the baddie

that the popular press makes it out to be. It's REFINED salt that's the

baddie. The arguments from this doctor made sense. So I switched our family

to sea salt. Lo and behold, no more headaches from popcorn. This was not a

case of mind over matter, because I had been under the impression that it was

the POPCORN that was the problem. It was only after the fact, when I did not

get the headaches after eating popcorn that I stopped to think about what was

different. I quickly realized it was the sea salt.

My trusty dusty body HAD spoken to me. It was just that at first I was not

able to draw the correct conclusion.
