Guest guest
Hi All: I placed " science " in quotes because what is under discussion here is the philosophical underpinnings of the scientific community and their process of accepting or rejecting concepts based on their alignment with the current frame of reference, a tendency that makes " science " a particularly unstable form of religious dogmatism that is at odds with truth seeking. I don't think that the " scientific method " of research is at question, although it is certainly limited in its ability to prove or disprove anything depending on the current scope of human ability to measure a particular thing. It's inability to do so should in no way diminish the truth of concepts it is not capable of measuring. > (Kuhn) does give the process of paradigm shift an > authoritarian cast, even comparing scientific groups to the ruling classes of Orwell's > " 1984. " Anybody who disagrees with the dominant scientific paradigm, he said, is > " read out of the profession. " In fact, Kuhn suggests, it is only when there is unanimity > about a paradigm that science comes to believe it is progressing. In other words, IMO, " We will ignore you until you become unavoidable, at which time we will take possession of your concepts and claim they were ours. " ;-) I'm becoming rapidly tired of the argument that " science " is the best thing that we have, so we should embrace it in toto without question. In many cases the same people who say that will encourage skepticism about other methods of thought or belief based on their dissimilarity to " science " . That, my friends, is one of the earmarks of mind control and cult behavior. If you are going to question, question *everything*. There hasn't been a " genius " of any note in human history who followed the flute of the status quo.
