Guest guest Posted September 17, 2001 Report Share Posted September 17, 2001 Hi Kate: You seem to be onm the right track nutritionally but to help ease the anxiety/stress levels you might be interested in this: GABA (gamma-amino butyric acid) helps calm anxiety and mind looping. GABA is frequently low in the body because other things are flooding the cell receptors. Nerve cells, or neurons, communicate by releasing neurotransmitters. These chemical messengers flow onto other neurons that act as receivers. The neurotransmitter attaches to a slot on the neuron, or receptor site. Once attached different neurotransmitters either trigger " go " signals that allow the message to be passed on to other cells or produce " stop " signals that prevent the message from being forwarded. GABA is the most common message-altering neurotransmitter in the brain. GABA supplements needs a perscription in some countries because overdosing can be adversly affective in epilepsy. There is a great deal of sucess using GABA for Obsessive Cumpulsive Disorder and over anxiety.
