Guest guest
Hello Folks: You know I don't usually clog up the waves with extraneous things, but I got a virus post from a member of the list this morning and I am sending this information so that you will be VERY CAREFUL not to open ANY attachments from ANYONE, no matter what they look like, no matter who they are. Period. The infected post will come to you appearing to come from a person whose email will be prefaced with an underscore ( _ ) and you will not be able to reply to it to tell them they have a virus unless you remove it. There will be an attached file which you MUST NOT OPEN. Delete the entire thing and clear your trash. This virus, a variant of Badtrans, has the capability to look through a digest and glean addresses, something others have not been able to do. It is very annoying but spreading it can be prevented if people keep their virus software current and resist the temptation to open attachments. Here is more information. PLEASE READ!!! I have been following this through Tech TV and the only thing you can do is to use strong filters for attachments and keep your virus scan current. Doc has offered a site for clearing your system. Full information on this new variant on Badtrans is here: http://antivirus.about.com/library/weekly/aa112401a.htm ---------------------------- Several people have been infected with the badtrans.b virus in the last few days, and I suspect it isn't over yet. I got it from someone on the list, and I'm sure I've given it to people on the list. It can't come through the list itself, but it searches out e-mail addresses on your computer and sends itself out to them attached to a document from your computer. It doesn't just look in your address book -- if you have copies of the digest, it will find the e-mail addresses there also. Here's a place you can download a utility that will cure it if you get it: http://www.zdnet.com/downloads/stories/info/0,10615,95351,00.html -- Be careful out there.
