Guest guest
Hi, Kath. If you haven't already read it, you might try HEART OF THE SOUL, by Gary Zukav and Linda Francis. It may be a bit too basic for you, but you might take a look at it the next time you're in a bookstore to see what you think. Welcome to the list. Enjoy. -- ------------------------------ Joel P. Guest guest
Hi Kath, I think you made a good step in reaching out. That is not easy when one is depressed. I am a Pastoral Counselor who has had some depression myself and it runs in my family, also. May I ask you a few questions? 1. How much do you know about depression? There are several forms, causes and treatments depending on the type. It is important to try to identify this for the best results. There are many therapies and treatments available that can be effective. 2. Have you reached out to anyone else? Professional ? Personal? If you have, some may not understand. Don't let that stop you. Eventually, someone will be able to help. It's easy to get more discouraged if help isn't immediately forthcoming. You are probably in a lot of pain, possibly angry without knowing it. This does not have to last and can be a breakthrough to major growth in your life. Please stay in touch. I care. Peace, Celeste

Guest guest
Celeste Thank you for your email. It was so wonderful. To answer your questions as best i can.. I was dxed bi polar about 5 yrs ago. they say it runs in my dad side of my family but i see it in moms as well. I was not a depressed child but i was heavily into anorexia and bulimia. I am on meds but i am a firm beliver that meds cant fix everything that you have to do some of the work as well. I know quite a bit about depression but prolly not as much as i should. I know my diet effects my moods and my sleep and my lack of exercise. The fact that i eat when im stressed and that i put on 40 lbs this last year didnt help im sure. But im working and fightingf my way out of the whole. God loves me and that is all i need to focus on right now. I know if i loved myself as much as god loves me id be aced right now. I do have a therapist and she is great but what is it they say ? if its to be its up to me ?. so its one foot in front of the other and my faith is helping me alot. Still its not always easy is it ? What type of counselor are you ? I really appreciate your email. nice meeting you and thanks alot Kath

Guest guest
Hi Kath, It sounds as if you are on the right track. My husband was bipolar but not diagnosed until late in life. He did very well on meds even though he had had a massive brain hemorrhage in 1995. He died Christmas Day 2001 from cancer. The medication if so important for bipolar. I'm glad to hear that you have a strong faith for that will help you throught the rough spots. Are you familiar with the book of Job? He was certainly depressed---with good reason but God used his experience to bring him through it all. I am a Pastoral Counselor and believe that God uses prayer, medication, therapy, etc. They are all gifts of God. Your therapist can help you sort out the psychological piece of it and help you with your thinking patterns. All professionals that I respect go for their own therapy when necessary so don't worry about the stigma. I believe it's the healthiest people who get help. You know alot of you have been diagnosed and are getting treatment. there is always more to learn, though. Maybe your therapist could recommend some books that he/she thinks would be appropriate. Please stay in touch. You have picked a good site. Peace, Celeste
