Guest guest
Anat, I think you are misunderstanding. Have you ever heard the story of the monkey trap? You can set up a monkey trap by tying a string around the neck of a jar, and putting a nut in the jar. The monkey will reach in for the nut and hold it, though his fist will not come out of the mouth of the jar. He will sit and squeal and chatter, frustrated, but trapped by his own inability to let go. If he had any sense, he would release the nut and pour it out into his hand. But he does not, his mind only conceives that if he lets go there will be no nut. There is also the idea of holding water or sand in your hand. The tighter you squeeze it, attempting to retain it, the more you will lose through your fingers. This is especially true of personal relationships and obsession. In this case it is like the old saw, " If you love something let it go, and if it is meant to be it will return to you. " We do not have to hang on to life to live life. Life happens whether we cling to it or not, and often if our hands are so full with grasping, we do not have the capacity to take in the blessings that are before us. Bruce Lee told the story about the student who came to the teacher full of himself and believing he knew much. The teacher offered him tea, and while he was filling the teacher's ears with his bragging about his store of knowledge, the teacher picked up the pot and began pouring more tea in his cup, overflowing it. The student asked, " Why are you doing that? My cup is full! " The teacher replied, " If your cup is full anything I can offer you will be wasted. You must empty your cup before I can teach you. " So that is what being empty means, Anat. It means beginner's mind, simplicity and humility. It does not mean we do not have these things as part of us any more, just that we are not carrying them on our backs... we own nothing, not even our skin, ultimately; we are just visiting students. In the end, we all die, whether we cling to life or not. Guest guest
> from what I've learned, (and Im no pro) If you say you resist, youll > always be resisting. -- The axiom is: " What you resist will persist. " Meaning that as long as you are resisting X, then X is the centre of your focus, and we manifest what we focus on. We cannnot negate it. If I tell you NOT to think of a Purple People Eater, guess what image flashed through your mind:). However, I we wish to attain Y and X is counterproductive to Y, then focusing on Y instead of notX will get rid of X. This is well dealt with in the 1960 book by Maxwell Maltz entitled Psycho-Cybernetics.
