" It's interesting how TV CAN be educational in unexpected ways. One of the reasons I know about the meaning of the word empath is because of the original star trek TV series. One episode was all about an empath. An empath is someone who feels what YOU feel. You feel pain -- they feel pain. You feel joy -- they feel joy. Some healers experience such " empathy " when they are trying to help a client. There is one very practical side to it too. But this gets a little " wild " . I once knew a father who could move his consciousness to share it as needed with another. One time his baby was crying and they didn't know why. He moved his consciousness to share it with the baby's body and in that way discovered what the baby's problem was. Knowing the problem, the parents could then solve that problem for the baby. Guest guest
Hi Rich, I know what Star Trek episode you are talking about. It was always one of my favorites. I can picture it now as the empath lay dying. I could relate with that character well but had never heard the word used outside of that episode. I am a counselor and feel that I may have that mixed blessing. I say mixed blessing because I can pick up very mixed messages that people are sending and it causes me a great deal of inner confusion outside of a counseling situation when it is not appropriate to confront a person and a great help in trying to understand a client when you can ask for clarification and/or point out their discrepancies to them and work with them. Thanks for the input. Celeste On Sun, 26 May 2002 19:37:02 EDT rputman writes: > Celeste wrote: > " Could you say something more about what an empath is, please.
