Having been around showbuiness for a while this gravelly voice problem

cropped up from time to time, especially with songists and actooors. There

may be two things here at work.

Number one, especially for those who talk a lot, is the possibility of small

nodules growing on the larynx, needs a camera to have a quick look...

supplied by your Doctor ;-)

The second is exercise.

The voice is controlled by muscle as we know, and a muscle properly

exercised is more likely to remain as 'fit' as possible longer. The best

exercise? Use it. An actor friend of mine sings, anything, all the time, and

very badly. :-) She also practices imitating the way others speak, again

badly, thank god she doesn't do it in public!

The idea is to use the muscles in ways that you don't normally do so not

allowing a set pattern of limited 'movement' to develop.

Hey and it drives everyone else crazy and is great fun.

I personally also believe that your voice reflects your emotions/energy

balance a much as your health. Maybe there is an emotional energy imbalance

in place, work on this. There's a free workbook on my chinosis site below,

the system may help and won't harm.

Hope this helps in some way.

Jon

good point about using the muscles (vocl folds) differently.

i think it is very difficulyto control thee muscle because we do not see

them.

we can just imagine how they look and contract.

Moe, I read what you write about the kidneys where the Jing (essence of

life) stays.

but what about the Liver? Did you ever notice if people with liver not

functioning well develop voice problems?

(BTW, what i the best diet/techniques for cleansing the liver?)

Jon,

I just looked over your site - well done! I love the ideas and the

theory of ChiNosis. Is this something you developed yourself? I

especially like the way it is focused on balancing one's energy and not

fixing something perceived as broken. Looks very useful as a system.
