Guest guest
Scott: << some things will probably not be detected by machines. >> I'm NOT a history expert, but given that admission, I'll try to provide some interesting background. Many decades ago a German electrical engineer visited China. He learned about acupuncture and subtle energy paths in the body. He already knew about homeopathy -- which by my understanding makes use of the notion of subtle energy profiles to " do its healing thing " . He figured it would be neat to combine his newfound knowledge of the body's subtle energy paths with his knowledge of electrical engineering. He came up with a machine where a practitioner could apply a very weak voltage at an acupuncture point on the skin. Acupuncture points are really END points of body subtle energy pathways. Such pathways commonly go to some internal organ. He found that by assessing the electrical resonance feedback a person could determine whether the organ at the other end was healthy, leaning toward degeneration, or leaning toward inflammation. His machine was called the Dermatron. One of the most famous places I know of in the USA where Dermatrons were used [with great success] was the Century Clinic in Reno, Nevada, run the two married doctors named Tang. As if often the case with safe, holistic health modalities, the USA Food and Drug administration tried to shut them down, claiming that what they were doing was no better than voodoo. What was really going on was that the Dermatron was based on principles of acupuncture, something the FDA knew nothing about. Move ahead a few decades. The Dermatron was accepted enthusiastically by patients for the simple reason that it WORKED. The personal computer was invented. Somebody came up with the idea to combine a personal computer with a Dermatron. This allowed for automation and greater versatility in the process. There are now several manufacturers of such machines. I'm not even sure of what the generic name for such machines is. One is called " The Listen Machine " . The idea is the machine " listens " to what's going on in the body. This machine is made by a company named Biomeridian; I think they're located in Utah. I haven't called them in a long while; the last phone number I have for them is 801-495-1188. They could tell you about where such machines are being used. If you were to go to someone who has such a machine they would have you take off your socks and shoes and any wrist wear (such as a watch). Then with a probe, they'd touch different acupuncture points on your fingers and toes. For each point the computer shows a scale from 0 to 100 to show how the organ that corresponds to that point is doing. It's fun to watch " the action " show up on the computer screen. As of several years ago I know that these machines were being used under a formal test protocol of the FDA. Here they went from raiding the Century Clinic with drawn weapons to actually authorizing a test of the machines. These days it's INCREDIBLE what these machines can do. If you visit a facility that has this type of machine you'll learn what I mean; it's too much to go into in this post. Now, before Caroline gets too unhappy about me being " off topic " , I'll show how all this relates to bodymind. You could say that what the listen machine does is to detect when subtle body energy circuits are " out of whack " . What the listen machine practitioner will do is to give the patient some homeopathic and/or herbal products to rebalance things. A man named Gary Craig teaches a method to correct such " out of whack " subtle body circuitry by working with the mind and body. He calls the technique Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). This is done by focusing the mind in specific ways and tapping on body acupuncture points. From the free basic EFT manual on his web site, here's how he describes what it's about. " As a further aid to your learning, it might help if you compare the energy flow in your body to that of a TV set. As long as the electricity flows through your TV normally, the sound and picture are both clear. But what would happen if you took off the back of the TV set and poked a screwdriver amongst all that " electronic spaghetti? " You would, quite obviously, disrupt or reroute the flow of electricity and an electric " zzzzzt " would occur inside. The picture and sound would become erratic. THE DISCOVERY STATEMENT " The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system. When our energy systems become imbalanced, we have an electrical " zzzzzt " effect going on inside. Straighten out this " zzzzzt " and the negative emotion goes away. It's that simple. I'm well aware of how strange this may sound and how difficult it can be to believe....at least at first. I wouldn't believe it myself if I hadn't seen so many marvelous changes in people after applying these techniques. " It doesn't really say so above. But it turns out that EFT works great on problems that would appear to be physical in nature too, not just emotional ones. If you'd like to learn more about EFT there's a ton of information including brief case histories and even some free manuals that can be downloaded at EFT - Gary Craig http://www.emofree.com/ It's disclaimer time. I've already said I'm not a historian. I'm also not a medical professional. I am a self taught health care consumer who's been on about a two decade learning path. Rich Putman Time is a great healer. Guest guest
One thing to be a bit careful about when applying small currents to the body is the migration of toxic metal ions from the electrodes into you. Use plenty of eeg gel and keep the electrodes clean (wash them EVERY time) (I know 'cos being a foolisn electronics engineer I tried it with lumps of copper - my skin went green and I felt sick for a week getting over the copper poisoning!) May your Deity bless you, and thanks for the great posts folks Simon Clifford (Kidderminster, UK)
