Burning bridges/holism vs allopathic

I was hearing today about a project that is going on

in a very deprived area of Glasgow (Scotland) through

a govt organisation called The Community Health

Iniative. About a year ago there was a discovery on

the part of the CHI (never realised that was the

neumonic - I am sure that it wasn't intended. . .)

that children under 12 from a certain group of high

rise public-owned flats (Americans reading this, think

projects then think down. . .) had an incrediably

high rate of respistory problems. It turned out that

it was due to the damp in the flats. They then found

out that athough these problems weren't necessarily

asthma they had all been diagnosed as such. As the CHI

also runs a stress centre with masage therapists,

reflexologists, etc someone suggested that they look

into the Buteyko technique which is excellent for

educating people to change their breathing habits.

there is only one peson who does this at the moment in

Glasgow. They now have her on board to teach correct

breathing to children under 12. the issue is that the

doctors are completely against because they get money

from the pharmaceutical company everytime they

prescribe an inhaler (which the child gets free and

the state pays for), so they are up in arms. But the

Buteyko lady (can't remember her name and I will

possibley get sued if she reads this and I publish her

name) seems to have spent a large amount of her time

working out exactly how much money she can extract

from the state and is fobbing off all suggestions that

she teach any other therapist to do even basic

techniques that they can pass on to other children.

She has cost the CHI fortunes. This in a city wth the

worst urban slums in Europe and the highest incidences

of childhood asthma in the world. And yes the lady in

question is loaded. Living in the holistic world I

have to say that some of the most money grabbing

people in the world are also in the 'healing' business

and some of those that 'channel' psychic information

or can do potentialy life saving techniques are in no

way immune to the excesses of any other group of

humans. I have met some of the most caring people in

the world in this business and also some real con

merchants. Also some the allopathic medical

pactitioners that I have come across have been amazing

healers, while others have been a disgrace.
