Guest guest
Hi all you lovely folks.... I'm Sandy, a massage therapist in Wisconsin. Recently, after a very severe bout of depression, I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder (aka manic depressive illness). I've read extensively about treatment options (such as they are), and they aren't options for me at all. 25 years ago, I was given lithium, the treatment of choice for this disorder, and it felt like it stole my soul from me, so I stopped taking it after a year. As a bodyworker, I feel that it's important for me to continue to be able to recieve guidance in my work, and fear that I will find that intuitive side of myself medicated out of me (the medical community brings out the big guns for this particular disorder, and I've been under much pressure from them to take mood stabilizers). So....I thought this might be a place to ask for suggestions.....for I feel this is very much a body/mind/spirit issue. I've begun making dietary changes, and have started taking omega-3 fatty acids (fish oil....blech!) Rescue Remedy seems to help with sleep. Stress remains a factor for me, but the more I am able to be fully in the present, the better I do there (not always easy!). Any other suggestions? Any of you out there with this disorder that have had success with something out of the ordinary? Any help would be most welcome.... Smiles and blessings.... Guest guest
Hello Sandy, I too had been diagnoised as Bi-Polar manic depressed but have found a totally natural way to get rid of the depression. I have been using 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide now since 1994 and am symptom free. My mom, dad and brothers can't believe the change. My kids now enjoy a mom that doesn't have the extreme ups and downs, espeically during holidays. Yes, I too was on Lithum. 425 ml 3 times a day....even the pharmathis said I was two different people....Hahahahah what he didn't know was he was SO RIGHT ON. You can read my firsthand experience with using H202 and how wonderful it is to flood your body with oxygen. Also there is a book on there by Ed McCabe and it's such a wonderful book. It even gives doctors that do the H202 IV's or the Ozone infusions in your area. I know it was the thing that changed my life around. And I now am so positive and can deal so much better with life and life's changes..... As I have always believed, SEEK AND YE SHALL FIND, ASK AND IT SHALL BE GIVEN.... Have a wonderful week-end now. I hope the fish oil is in capsule form rather than something a person takes with a teaspoon. <G> The capsules would sure help the " blech " factor. Have you tried the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) yet? The idea behind that approach is to re-align the body's circuitry. EFT LOOKS weird, but I figure RESULTS are what's important -- not how it looks. EFT - Gary Craig A couple of decades ago I remember hearing advice from Dr. Forrest Shaklee, Senior. I can paraphrase it; he said our bodies have INCREDIBLE healing abilities _when given a chance_. Given a chance means giving our bodies the raw materials they need to do their job. I think of it sort of like this ... What if your car needed fixing. Jeff and Bob are two different mechanics who each have the KNOWLEDGE to fix your car. Jeff has 9 tools in his repair shop. Bob has 99 tools in his repair shop. Everything else being equal, who would be more likely to be able to fix your car? When it comes to our bodies, the corollary is making sure we " cover the bases " with a basic foundation of nutritional supplements. That would include a multivitamin, a calcium product, and a basic antioxidant product. My preference in this area is Melaleuca supplements; one reason why is because they feature fructose compounding which assures that the body ASSIMILATES what goes into the mouth. I help people set up their own factory direct Melaleuca accounts. Above I talked about desired stuff going into our bodies. It's also important to keep UNdesired stuff from going into our bodies. There are lots and lots of toxins in common everyday household products that are sold in retail stores. toxins you didn't realize are in your home Such toxins can have all kinds of undesirable effects on bodies, especially our neurological system. Fortunately, there are alternatives -- nontoxic household consumable products. Once again, I find Melaleuca a convenient, affordable answer for my family. Guest guest
Sandy, I'm admittedly biased to the technique I practice, but have you considered CranioSacral Therapy? In the case of Bipolar disease, it chould be considered as an adjuct therapy, possibly decreasing your need for medication. You can find a local therapist at www.iahp.com. Two things to consider when searching. First, the search engine is not the best. If you search on your town, you will not find a therapist in the next town. Use the first three digits of your ZIP code. Also, each therapist has thier training listed. Look for one who is techniques certified, a diplomate or a teaching assistant. While not a guarentee of quality, it is a good general indicator. More advanced therapists also have more 'tools' in thier toolbox. For more information, pick up a copy of John Upledger's " Your Inner Physician and You. " and/or " SomatoEmotional Release and Beyond. " Good luck in your quest. Jeff / NJ , " S.J. Guest guest
Hi Sandy. I'm Andrea (Chiropractor) in New Mexico. Have you considered therapy? Specifically Cognitive/Behavioral/Emotional therapy? It has essentially the same outcome as meds do, except it takes longer and you know why. Personally I was on effexor for depression and social anxiety for about a year (got off because my only side effect was constant weight gain) but I never noticed any of the dulling/soul taking effects that you mentioned. I felt great, and now that I've weaned myself off, the effects have lasted..and, knowing what I do about Cog/B/Emot therapy I'm able to walk MYSELF through little personal therapy sessions logically instead of still needing a therapist to get through my issues. Occasionally I feel the start of some bout of depression taking me, and I'm able to look at it, objectify it, stick my tongue out at it, go eat some chocolate and move on ) I never asked what my Dx was, but I assume it's approximately the same as yours. Also I sympathize, doing bodywork had got to be hard on you.. before I broke down and took the medications I was EXtremely susceptible to other peoples issues. If I worked on a sick person, say after a funeral or something, I'd be Very ill for weeks after, or even working on emotionally distraught people would have the same effect. Now..nada. I know you don't want to hear about another med, and meds react differently with diff people..my only point is to find some WAY or Time when you DO feel good and start immediately on therapy THEN while you're level headed enough to absorb it. xoAndrea
Guest guest
Sandy.. I forgot the most important.. EVERY bodyworker deserves to have body work done. Find a chiro who does low force deep work, NET, Network, something like that, or a rolfer. Someone to love on you while YOU relax. And take a good HARD look at your diet and environment. Those things alone will do wonders for you. xoAndrea
Guest guest
--- HI Sandy, I have had a problem with anxiety attacks, depression, and there is manic-depression as well as borderline personality disorder in my family. I discovered two books, called Biobalance, and Biobalance2.......can't remember the author, but he discovered during 30 years of research that he could considerably reduce if not eliminate bi-polar symptoms by certain dietary changes. The diet is easy, I started it 2 months ago, and not only have I not had an anxiety attack since, but I've managed to stave off depression even tho I'm under heavy stress right now, and I " ve lost 10 pounds without even trying. I'm also sleeping thru the night again, which hasn't happend for almost 20 years. It might be worthwhile for you to check out. Renee In , " S.J.
