Guest guest
Self Awareness, Going Deeper I'll be happy when.... I get that big house, win the lottery, marry that sexy person..... hey, wait a minute- what if it never happens? Are you gonna put off being happy just because life didn't hand it all to you as you wished? Why do we put so many conditions on life, especially on oursleves? If we're ever to find inner peace we must first think seriously about these things. Conditions are the stumbling blocks we put in our way. Why? Fear, insecurity and expectations. We assume our lives will go just as we planned, and don't account for the other things that happen along the way that may sidetrack us. My life didn't rurn out nearly as I had hoped. I had my dreams and asperations, most of which were crushed before ever getting off the ground. It wasn't for lack of talent either. This devestated me deeply and I believed I couldn't be happy uless I made them happen. I never got the loving family, my health kept me from finishing college, I can't drive..... So what! Was my life a total failure? No way! Some of my dreams happend in different ways, small successes can be just as important as the big ones. I did find a little love, the career I wanted didn't happen exactly as I dreamed but I did manage to do something with the skills I had for it. In fact, many smaller accomplishments showed me I had succeeded, despite the conditions I put forth. In finding inner peace, I found results I could live with. This gave balance and grounding in my life, which helped me be more accepting and realistic in my goals. Remember, we all have skills we can tap into and use in ways we haven't yet considered. The athelete who can no longer play could become a coach or game announcer. The singer who fell from the charts could always teach, or perform for community events and visit hospitals and convelescent homes. In doing an intensive self evaluation, we can find where our strengths and weaknesses are, and work with what we have, by polishing our skills and finding alternate applications for them, just in case our original choices fall through. I always wanted to help people. My first choice didn't get me as far as I know I could've gotten, but I found other ways to use those abilities. Now I have another way of helping others, with new skills added onto the old ones and a whole new direction to take them in. When we limit ourselves to conditions, we lessen our chances of finding some measure of success and happiness.
