Guest guest
Just joined, having been treated with alternative medicine created interest in this area for me. I have been wondering Does any one know what the effects would be if a person were to receive contradictory subliminal messages? Such as one for eating right through self hypnosis etc.. & then see on TV basically eat our stuff, which may not be good for you at all. or buy/vote for brand A, B is bad & buy/vote for brand B, A is bad. Apparently there are no laws prohibiting the use of subliminals in the US on at least a federal level, that I am aware of. One was proposed back in the 60's, but it never made it into law. I have read on the net that contrary scripts running at the same time will cause stress. Is this true? The next question is: can a script be placed into a person to make them aware of subliminals? thanks
Guest guest
I'm not certain that this will answer your question directly but I do know that often times more information leads to a broader understanding of things. It would be absolutely impossible for the government to truly regulate 'subliminal' messages as they reside in everything we say and do. Yes Everyone uses subliminal messages everyday often without realization. I could be How you say something the Tone of your voice the Words you choose or perhaps and more often the Body language. Think of a situation where you really wanted a partner, friend or relative to do something - what did you do to persuade them. Or maybe someone persuade you to do something that was more to their benifit than your own desire. Often times 'guilt' is our persuader in these cases but generally it is not done so with an negative intent. But even so it often works to the advantage of the persuader. Advertisers know generally a bit more about language patterns and how it effects us and they use a 'reverse' effect called a 'towards' or a combination of 'towards-away from' models. More people than not make choices based on either what makes them feel good or getting away from what makes them feel bad especially when the end result makes them feel good. So advertisers use word & images a combination of representational systems (Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic) to instill a negative representation of something only to be 'relieved' by their product. Or on a much lighter sense they use an all 'towards' model making their product seem to stimulate several positive 'energies' inside their audience thus when they go to the store or whatever they get a good feeling when they see their product. That is only one of many ways advertisers use to 'get to us' sort of speak but there are other ways that these types of systems are used in our everyday life and we often aren't even aware of it. Like the lawyers that use anchor points in their depositions to make their client have a certain appeal or their opposer to be conneted to a negative emotion. Or sales representatives that use anchors to make us 'feel' good (why do you think you can tolerate or even 'like' some sales people and other drive you crazy). Now days many businesses or individuals are learning these skills to help them 'get what they want'. But they really are not doing anything dishonest or obtrusive they are actually just learning to use Natural human skills and Natural human behavioral responses to their benefit. This provides two very positive outcomes. One the person they are 'working with' feels good and two they get what they want. But if you look at it from even another perspective. If the general population understood this pattern (which as I said we do similar things without even knowing it anyway) then they could decide more consciously what they wanted to 'take in' and what they wanted to 'avoid', or at least they could be more aware when it was happening to some degree to make a conscious choice - do I agree that it is a positive thing to feel good about this. (or is some cases should I allow this person to intimidate me or make me feel guilty). For my personal choice I avoid a lot of News - which is filled with negative suggestions. I usually watch television with a positive educational purpose or that is humorous and mute and generally don't watch commercials. I avoid some music that tends to have depressive lurics or sounds, and listen to things that are upbeat or positively stimulating. I avoid organizations and or religious groups that I am left with a feeling of guilt or judgement with. Instead find groups or activities that leave me with a positive, enjoyable experiences. But the same goes for my children. I can not protect them all the time but I do keep attentive to what they watch, what they listen to, what groups they are involved in (to especially include the leaders or coaches demeanor). Now lets focus on the idea that you brought up - will subliminals from one thing (hypnosis) be over-ridden by all the millions of others we are fed all the time. This is an individual thing of but can of coarse and likely does - however there are many things a Practitioner can do to help 'avoid' such things. When a client goes to a hypnotist to break a habit the hypnotist should do two things to make this successful - One break the old pattern and two create a new one. But there is something very critical here that also has to be understood... Every seemingly negative habit or behavior or addiction has a positive intention. The person is getting something out of it or they would not be doing it in the first place. So the key here is to help the client identify what they are getting out of it first. Then when the behavior is changed they can find a new behavior - which may or may not be what new habit they want to instill. Let's take weight management for example. They want to be thin and enjoy exercise. This is two different things all together. As a Practitioner I would first identify what my client sees as a healthy body image. I am not there to put my map of the world on them so this is not for judgement. It is only to help the client understand what is a safe weight for them. Often they have a number in their head about how much they want to weigh, but don't take into consideration that it may not be `feasible' for their height, frame etc. In this case I am more concerned with the fact that clients tend to have an ideal weight that is much less than what their height and frame are healthy at. Once this is established. I often include with this part of my client work some self awareness and look at helping my clients find ways to appreciate who they are and the beauty in themselves no matter what their size. If they aren't able to accept themselves for who they are right now they may not be able to accomplish their goal as easily. Or even if they do they may not appreciate themselves when it happens and continue to find fault with themselves. Then a Practitioner can start looking at what they are `getting' out of not being their ideal size/weight. This may sound strange but believe it or not if they were getting something positive from it they would be thin already. So let's just say after some `questioning' we find out that they have stayed at their current size because there is a fear of being attractive and it keeps them safe. It is then the responsibility of the Practitioner to find a way to help the client find that feeling of safety in other ways (depending on the Practitioner's background there are a variety of options). The next step a Practitioner could take is to find out what are the food choices of the client and what they get from that - then find out what they feel about what would be considered `healthier' choices and maybe alter that perception if needed. Once that is established a Practitioner could move on to the other `topic' at hand, exercise - find out what stops them. What they get from not exercising etc. So you see just using subliminal messages may work on occasion for some people but generally speaking a client needs to identify all the areas that effected with this behavior and address each one individually. Then the chances for success are much higher. More importantly the long term effects are greater. I hope that is helpful for you. As I said it doesn't necessarily answer your question but perhaps it can give you more information so you can made better decisions for yourself - whether it be avoiding or being more aware of the negative suggestions going on around your or ensuring your Practitioner has the skills to help you in the way you are truly looking for. As for your last question... Being aware of ALL 'subliminals' could be more stressful than not because the conscious mind can only handle seven + or minus 2 (approximately) bits of information. With subliminals being in every situation in every conversation it could cause more stress to be aware of them all consciously. But it is a good idea to 'pay attention' to some degree so you can consciously tell yourself - yes I like that idea/concept or no that is not for me. Also if you are more aware of your choices in television, movies, music, etc then you have a much better opportunity to avoid unresourceful suggestions. If you want to really use your mind power sort of speak, and you believe in the power of belief and imagination - you can visualize a 'negativity' shield whenever you are going to be in situation where this may be a concern. Just tell your 'subconscious' mind to let all the unresourceful comments/suggestions bounce off of you and not penetrate your energy.
