Are you ready to break out of prison?

 

Then let go of your beliefs.

 

Spirit, the single underlying power of the universe, acts like an

invisible control center, directing our functioning on all levels from behind

the scenes. Spirit is also our direct connection to each other, the universe at

large, and to what we think of as God, the ultimate level of existence. Spirit

is not a person or a destination. It is like electricity, the life force that

powers up our lives based on what we tell it to give to us.

 

And it's our beliefs that tell it what we want. If we believe our lives

are a series of meaningless coincidences knitted together by pure chance then

we're not going to feel the spiritual power operating in our lives. This power

will still be operating, but we won't feel it. If we believe that any group we

belong to--democrats, republicans, Catholics, Jews, men, women, young, old--has

the correct outlook on the world, then we're never going to feel the underlying

connectedness between all people no matter how hard we might try. If we believe

that life is finite and that death is the end of the show, we're never going to

feel secure enough to take the risks that would make us happy in this lifetime.

 

Beliefs are very powerful. Before we begin to question everything, our

beliefs seem so rational, so logical, so true. That's because every belief we

have is plugged into Spirit and this power brings situations to us that validate

our beliefs, no questions asked. Spirit does not filter, question or judge our

beliefs. Spirit accepts us unconditionally. It simply does what we tell it to

do, which explains why both sides of any war can say that God is on their side,

because it is. How could it be any other way? Does electricity have more of a

fondness for toasters than for televisions? No. It exists only to power them up.

It's up to us to decide what we do with this power. That's what free will is all

about.

 

So, if we want happier lives, we have to unlock the filing cabinets of our

minds and question all those beliefs that are keeping us in the prison of our

own self-created unhappiness. Then, without judging them, we need to let go of

these beliefs and take on new ones that align with what we want. When we're

ready to break out of prison, Spirit--the power of the universe--will help us

every step of the way.
