The survey of almost 5,000 people over 55 found those who drank a lot of it had about half the risk of a heart attack. Researchers aren't sure whether compounds in the tea help or whether the healthier lifestyle associated with the drink is responsible. Of those who took part in the five year study 146 suffered heart attacks and 30 of those died. Those who drank more than one mug of tea a day had half the heart attack risk of others and one third the risk of a fatal one. The study carried out by Johanna Geleijnse is reported in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
