Guest guest
- Arnoldgore The NY Times of Tuesday April 29,2003 had a misleading article by Gina Kolata decrying the possibility of overdosing on vitamibns. After first citing some legitimate, but overblown concerns about Vtamin a buildup that Could theoretically lead to osteoprosis goes on to confuse the water soluble B Complex with Vitamin A and reers without citation, some studies showing none or negative effects. Below is a letter I sent to the EditorYou may send your letter to: lettersTo the Editor:Gina KTolata's article in the Science section of April, 29.2003 "Vitamins: More May be Too Many" overstates the case and confuses the water soluble and harmless B vitamins with Vitamin A which can build up and lead to an overdose. Even the vitamin A overdose is very rare and can be reversed by merely discontinuing the vitamin. Healthy people may not want to take the supplement of 25,000 IU every day as it builds up. As to the scientific literature there have been numerous studies showing benefit to vitamin supplementation. When you consider that over 100,000 people die in hospitals alone from prescription drugs, not from overdoses but "taken as directed". the overblown warnings about the remote possibility of overdosing from vitamin A or D, the fat soluble vitamins will only serve to scare people away from trying to use alternatives to these more dangerous drugs Arnold Gore Consumers Health Freedom Coalition.
