Guest guest
- Arnoldgore Hyperbaric Oxygen for Multiple Sclerosis Dr. Robert Rowen,MD in his newsletter Second Opinion, May 2003 writes about the discovery of this surpressed successful treatment for about 80% of MS cases. Dr.Phillip James of England is also a scuba diver, who noticed that divers having "the bends" had central nerous system lesions similar to those in MS. Studies showed that microbubbles of air or fat into the carotid arteries of rats open the Blood Brain Barrier (BBB). Dr.James theorizes that many people suffer physical trauma that causes damage to the brain that for some unexplained reason is not healed quickly.Hence eveb minor trauma early in life, that released fat into the circulatory system that causes a BBB disruption that smolders for a latent period without symptoms that appear later in life.Dr.Richard Neubauer of Ocean Medical Center near Ft.Lauderdale, Florida reports that 70 to 80% of his MS patients will have stabilization of disease or improvement with Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) treatments. This compares to 80% progression of disease in untreated or conventionally treted MS. The MS society paid Dr.B.Fischer $250,000 to conduct a definiive study discrediting HBO for MS. It didn't turn out that way. In a study of 20 patients receivng HBO and 20 on a sham plaebo for 20 sessions he found "Objective improvement occurred in 12 of 17 patients treated with HBO and 1 of 20 treated with placebo" The odds of this occurring by chance is 1 in 1,000. "At one year follow up, deterioration was noticed in 2 (12%)in the HBO group, neither of whom had an initial response and in 11 patients(55%) in the placebo group.Dr.Fischer had the courage to publish his findings in the New England Journal of Medicine, 308:101-186. His integrity was rewarded by loss of his job and his HBO chamber was dismantled and thrown out as garbage to hopefully be recycled into something profitable. Several other articles have appeared dutifully discrediting HBO, but Dr.Neubauer says they have methodological flaws. Neubauer has found that relatively low pressure HBO of 1.3-1.5 atmospheres works best. Higher pressures may not work and studies finding no benefit are largely using higher pessures.HBO chambers are FDA approved and relatively inexpensive and are sold by Dr.Todd Kaufmann who supplied Dr.Rowen's office.Dr. Neubauer's tel 954-771-4000Dr.Kauffman 800-635-4334 arnold
