Mass fainting hits Ethiopian students

Some 2,000 students are concerned by the fainting spell

By Damian Zane BBC, Addis Ababa

There have been strange goings-on at Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia.

Last week there were two so-far unexplained deaths and this week more than

30 students fainted and were taken to hospital. No-one could discover the

reason for their collapsing. Some are putting this all down to examination

stress, but the university authorities are not at this stage giving any

explanation.

Everything is back to normal on campus, doctors say The 36 male Addis Ababa

University students were taken to one of the city's hospitals for thorough

tests after fainting. The hospital says that all the students complained of

being poisoned, but it could not find any evidence of this. The students

underwent blood, urine and stool tests, and they had x-rays. Though some of

them appeared weak, the hospital says that all their vital signs were

normal. Last week, two students died - one in his dormitory and one on the

way to hospital, and the police are still investigating the causes behind

the deaths. Exams cancelled The university was clearly concerned that the

fainting incidents could have created some sort of mass hysteria, and it

cancelled exams on Thursday to call a special meeting of students to try and

explain what was going on. According to Dr Gemachew Magarsa, the

university's academic vice president, about 2,000 students turned up. The

doctors who had looked at the students who had fainted addressed the meeting

and said that this was not a case of poisoning. Dr Gemachew told me that

this reassured most of the students there. So, what is the explanation? That

is not so clear. Dr Gemachew said that he was no psychoanalyst or

psychologist so he did not want to offer his own explanation. All he was

prepared to say was that this mass-fainting phenomenon will take some more

time to explain. In the meantime, he reassured me that everything has gone

back to normal on campus.

I am not herein claiming anything; I am just tossing out a few crumbs of food for thought relative to the past 35 years that I have continued to keep myself updated on "F," its compounds, their ubiquitous presence in the environment and their myriad uses in more than 50 different industries many of which a form of "F" is also a toxic waste byproduct AND I AM ALSO MAKING READERS AWARE OF A RECENT HISTORIC EVENT WHICH WAS HOSTED BY THE U.S. ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY (EPA).

In America, in addition to all military bases and native American Indian reservation, the campus' of virtually all colleges and universities are now fluoridated either by equipment installed on campus or by the fact the school is served by a public water system that is fluoridated.

In November, 2002, the media aired public health concern for the fact that a recent CDC census had determined that one of every three Native Americans now has diabetes. This is statistically-significant.

For some time now, a Canadian by name of Andreas Schultz, one of the founders of PARENTS OF FLUORIDE POISONED CHILDREN, has been making the public aware of the growing number of scientific papers being published on diabetes or kidney problems usually experienced only by diabetics are now showing up in both adults and children after they have receiving treatment with drugs containing a fluoride-base formula.

To return to the Ethiopian incident, for those of you whose frame of reference does not include sufficient background info. on water fluoridation, there are many documented and undocumented incidents of poisoning from fluoridated water equipment failure "overfeeds" resulting in everything from death to the symptoms of mild poisoning which the Ethiopian students claim to be experiencing. On the other hand, there are numerous areas in that part of the world which have naturally-occurring fluorides in the soil and water. In some areas fluorides are very high with resulting endemic fluorosis [fluorine poisoning] manifesting itself in shortened life span, early onset of arthritic symptoms, skeletal crippling and yellowed or brown-black teeth.

Read the late Dr. John Yiamouyiannis' three-times-updated, FLUORIDE THE AGING FACTOR, c 1993, 1986, 1982. If you can, find a copy of this now out-of-print classic which, in Chapter three, describes one way "F" causes acquired immune deficiency....

Did the autopsies on those Ethiopian students who died from this "unknown" cause include "F" toxicology? Were those who fainted, became sickened and/or weak tested for fluoride poisoning? There is no such thing as an unknown cause. In my study and experience, the reason is only that not all variables have been included in the search. (What is not looked for will not be found.)

Here in the U.S. soft tissue analysis for fluorine/fluoride intoxication is not done unless the family and/or the attending physician demand it. This is due to the undeserved assumption that because there is the practice of drinking fluoridated water to "cure" tooth decay, all other fluoride exposure is thereby presumed "safe".

I recently experienced a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction Subsequent to two fluoride exposures (the one from a fluoride-base artificial sweetener in cookies served me by a skeptic who did not believe my fluoride allergy claim; the second from our local air pollution, which includes the airborne effluence from a municipal waste incinerator), Last December I experienced a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction to the airborne "F" exposure which followed close upon the heels of the fluoridated cookie poisoning so that I was barely recovered from the first unintended exposure when this valley went into nearly three weeks of what local media labeled as "Spokane's worst air inversion ever").

Ten days into this industrially-created "cesspool" of environmental air pollution, I began breaking out in allergic dermatitis which, starting with my eyes and the back of my head, eventually worked its way down until it covered over 40% of my body. To add insult to injury, the rest of the winter was just one air inversion after another! I, literally, exsisted in a living hell for the better part of 120 days (constantly flaking, inflamed skin on back of head, forehead, eyelids, ears, neck, shoulders, arms, sides, hips which was a constantly burning/stabbing/itching pain from which I could escape into an exhausted sleep of at least two hours after showering and applying my own natural (non-drug) remedies. Then, if I remained at home inside my tightly-closed home which has two O3 (ozone) air purifiers going constantly, I would be able to tolerate this irritating condition for several hours; however, if I went outside and the wind was not blowing and/or it was not raining or snowing, I would begin to itch within 15 to 20 minutes, beginning with my face and eyes.

Because over 50% of all drug medicine (and particularly those that would have been used to treat my condition) contain a fluoride, I chose to do as I have for the past 35 years: use only pure water, biodynamic ("organically-grown") foods, non-toxic herbs and fluoride-free vitamin-mineral supplements; however, I did learn of a "synthetic chemical and environmental pollution" detoxification clinic in another state and went there in April for special chelation therapy---after $600 worth of blood tests ordered by my "wholistic" MD indicated a curious deficiency in Thiotic (a-lipoic) acid and lowered levels of biotin and iron (which can be symptomatic of fluorine intoxication).

RE. THE HISTORICAL EVENT of this past May 6 which was hosted by the U.S.EPA regarding its curiosity over the continued resistance to water fluoridation by the public in general? (If you've read any of Darlene Sherrell's in-put lately you will; otherwise, visit the web sites: http://www.npwa.freeserve.co.uk/epastatement.htm and/or www.Keepers-of-the-Well.com to get started.

QUESTION: If water fluoridation (and fluorides in general) are so "good" for us and so "safe" to take, how come none of the water fluoridation proponents showed up at this intended debate which was entitled, "SOCIAL SCIENCE AND RESISTANCE TO WATER FLUORIDATION,"?

ACTION TO TAKE: Where anything is concerned, investigate before you invest your emotion. Meanwhile, heed the suggestion of this 5/6/03 EPA Office of Science and Technology-hosted-event's Spokesperson, Dr. Ed Ohanian, and communicate any concerns you may have to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) which recently announced a panel to examine new evidence on fluoride toxicity. http://www.nationalacademies.org is the web site. In going there or in correspondence you must refer to the project name and number which are: "TOXICOLOGIC RISK OF FLUORIDE IN DRINKING WATER," # BEST-K-02-05-A.

YOU MUST ALSO MAKE THE NAS AWARE OF THE NEED TO HAVE THE REPUTATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THIS INVESTIGATIVE COMMITTEE UNTAINTED BY ANY QUESTIONABLE BACKGROUND BEHAVIOR OR TIES TO ANY PRO-FLUORIDATION INFLUENCE. Currently, John Doull, MD, the NAS review panel chairman, is a member of the council for Science and Health (ACSH), an industry-funded, actively pro-fluoridation group and I believe there are others biased in favor of fluoridation.
