Guest guest
I'd like to thank everyone for their answers about my fibromyalgia question. I'm on a limited income. Could anyone suggest an antioxident that I could afford? Thanks, Beth
Guest guest
Hi Beth; All of the antioxidants work together, and neglecting one is not a good idea... But the research shows, and practice bears it out, that glutathione levels, when increased, can reduce fibromyalgia and especially fatigue. The cheapest way to increase glutathione is with selenium 200-600 mcg daily plus NAC or n-acetylcysteine. It will have side effects at the dose you need (probably 200-300 mg 5 times daily) but you may tolerate it. Glutathione will help you recycle any other antioxidants in your system rather that letting them release one electron and then become inert. The primary treatment for fibromyalgia is HGH increase though; that's why exercise is so high on the list. Guest guest
vitamin c and vitamin e, beta carotene, all long established knowledge on being antioxidants and mass marketed cheaply. Don't know whether or not they relate directly to fibromyalgia. Guest guest
Hi Beth, Of course everyone is going to suggest whatever they are trying to sell to you. I like this one: http://www.healthyfutures.net/bluegreensolutions/products/products-peak-sprouts.php if that link doesn’t work, try http://tinyurl.com/fewr it has the antioxidant vitamins coming from FOOD – not isolated ingredients. You can buy a lot of cheap antioxidant vitamins, but if they are synthetic or made from isolates, your body really doesn’t “understand” what it is, and so you just end up with expensive pee. You need to get your nutrients from food. Carol wolf_pack349 [wolfwoman454] Tuesday, June 24, 2003 5:53 PM To: Fibromyalgia Question I'm on a limited income. Guest guest
Here are a couple of exceptions to that expensive pee rule. Cold-processed whey isolate is the most bioavailable protein on the planet. It has a biological value of up to 159, compared with eggs at 100 and soy isolate at about 79. It creates the antioxidant glutathione, along with selenium, which is usually cultured from yeast that concentrates it. 10 grams of this whey isolate creates as much glutathione as a kilo of whole food. The best one is Immunocal; however the one I use in my practice is 1/6 of the price even at retail, as Immunocal costs its dealers. I'd recommend that you find a sugar free cold-processed whey isolate and make sure you are getting cold-processed. NAC that I recommended isn't particularly bioavailable; the body treats it as a toxin if it can, hence the side effects; nevertheless it is used in emergency situations to stop the liver from liquefying from free radical damage due to overdose etc. So it generates the antioxidant you want, and 'right now'. In fact it works so fast that it has a half-life of only 2 hours in the body. It's cheap, too; you can find it at any health food store. While peer-reviewed studies cite the effeciveness of serious glutathione precursors on fibromyalgia and CFS, I've yet to hear of someone getting relief from food. Please contact me with that information if you will so I don't miss it. I may include it in my dietary recommendations.
