Guest guest
Well, Hugo, I really do not know if the statement I made about aconite (Fu Zi) is a fact (since I am just an informal student of TCM), but I do know that aconite is pretty powerful stuff, and over time I expect it might have some negative side effects. Think of this, herbalists in the West will not even use aconite (also know as monkshood) in formulas since they only know it only as a poison. In other words, I do not think it is something that is meant to be taken all the time, as a substitute for thyroid medication, since herbs can potentially be poisonous to the body, especially over time. I think Cang Er Zhi (Xanthium) is another such herb. I know that if I use the formula Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan, instead of Liu Wei Di Huang, I get constipated from it. So maybe that is another reason I think I cannot use aconite in a formula long term, since the two added herbs in the formula Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan are the cinnamon and the aconite (otherwise the formula is identical to the Liu Wei Di Huang). Maybe some people could use this formula long term, but it has proved to be a problem for me. I think that some of my yang symptoms (especially the kidney yang) were so entrenched before starting TCM herbs and acupuncture that I also have some yin symptoms mixed in now, and maybe some of the herbs good for the yang mess up the yin problem. So difficult these long term, Western medically neglected cases! And my question about it all is if one possibly has a congenital root as cause, could TCM alone maintain the symptoms at a comfortable level. In my own case I have not seen a resolution to all symptoms, but certainly they are much better than before I added TCM to the mix.
