Guest guest
i agree that besides the anti-inflammatory you need to get at what is causing the issue--someone mentioned seeing a chiro and i think that is a great idea. i have been going to the chiro for only a month and have already seen such improvements. while researching for my own anti-inflammatory i came across a lot of info on msm...an anti- inflammatory that is supposed to be espcially good for joint problems and pain. below is some info but if you do a search for " msm and anti-inflammatory " you'll find lots of info out there. good luck. luv laura ******************************************** MSM – Methyl-sulfonyl-methane MSM is an organic sulfur. This sulfur plays an essential role in human nutrition which is commonly overlooked. MSM is a metabolite of the compound dimethy-sulfoxide (DMSO). It is used to treat animals, such as horses, to reduce inflammation in joints and injured areas. Due to the fact that DMSO has the effects of smell and irritation, this limits it's use in humans. It is a fact that sulfur is stored in every cell of the body. The highest concentrations are found in the hair, skin, joints, and nails. Sulfur also appears in the blood and in the other organs of the body. Sulfur is the eighth most abundant substance in the body by weight. MSM is used by the body to continually create new healthy cells to replace the old ones. Sulfur works with thiamine, pantothenic acid, biotin, and lipoic acid, which are needed for metabolism and strong nerve health. Sulfur also plays a part in tissue respiration, the process that oxygen and other substances are used to build cells and release energy. It is an essential mineral for the human body and plays many roles. Sulfur has the following responsibilities in the body: 1) Dehydration and Detoxification, 2) Energy, and 3) Structure and Function. Sulfur deficiencies are associated with the following: slow wound healing, scar tissue, brittle nails and hair, gastrointestinal problems, regulation of inflammation lung disfunctions, immune disfunction, arthritis, acne, rashes, depression and memory loss. Supplements of MSM assures that the body has an adequate organic source for the areas that it may be lacking MSM. There are many foods which contain sulfur such as: fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, seafood, meat, eggs, tea, coffee, milk, chocolate, onions, garlic, horsetail (herb), wheat germ, and amino acids. MSM as a dietary supplement has been noted to help with the following: improvement of joint flexibility, reducing stiffness and swelling, improving of circulation, reducing pain in systemic inflammatory disorders such as arthritis, reducing scar tissue, and breaking up calcium deposits. All forms of arthritis are characterized by pain, swelling, stiffness, and deformity of one or more joints. The following are different types of arthritis: rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and TMJ (temporal mandibular joint dysfunction). For a number of years those who suffered from any of the above mentioned arthritises, had only a few known help aids, such as anti- inflammatory agents, steroids – which had side effects and also over time lost their effectiveness, and aspirin – which caused upsets in the gastrointestinal tract. Now there are more options for those who suffer from arthritis: Taking Vitamin C (Calcium Ascorbate) at levels above 1,000 mg per day. This increases natural anti-inflammatory cortisone production, and is also helpful to the adrenal glands and boosts the immune functions. Vitamin C also stimulates white blood cells and the overall immune functions. Herbs can also help, such as Bromelain, when used in conjunction with Vitamin C and bioflavonoids (such as rutin), can reduce swelling of the joint and the pain that this causes. Other helpful suggestions for those who suffer from the above mentioned types of arthritis are: Avoid suspected and known allergens Avoid red meat and other acid-forming and high phosphorus containing products, such as carbonated beverages Avoid refined foods like white flour, and white sugar, avoid table salt, spices, alcohol, and caffeine. Avoid acidic fruits and/or the nightshade family (tomatoes, potatoes, green pepper and eggplant) Avoid iron supplements which are suspected to cause joint pain, swelling and destruction. Always get at least 10-12 hours of rest daily, including napping. Exercise and stretch daily, this will stimulate circulation and encourages healing. Contrast baths – (alternating warm water for four minutes then cold water for one minute, will stimulate circulation. Respect your pain – if a joint becomes painful for several hours after an activity, do not repeat the activity. Drink only steam-distilled water. Make sure you get enough fiber in your diet. MSM fortifies the body's natural barriers against allergens. Taken orally, it alleviates the allergic response to pollen and to food. MSM supplementation has the ability to enhance lung function. MSM strengthens the integrity of the mucous membrane tissues when using 1,000 to 3,000 mg. daily. MSM is an anti-inflammatory agent, and helps bronchial clearing in those who suffer from Asthma. Several studies have examined sulfur-bearing vegetables and herbs and found that they strongly inhibit carcinogens from forming in the body. Carcinogenic substances such as tobacco, pesticide residues, and chemicals found in certain drugs all weaken the immune system. If the body is maintained in good health standing, not abused or overwhelmed with chemicals in foods or drugs, stress, obesity, nutrient deficiencies, then the body can fight off cancerous cells. There has also been research which shows that taking MSM can protect against breast cancer, colon cancer, and diabetes. MSM increases nutrient absorption as it improves the following: Hyperacidity/Heartburn – MSM protects against stomach acid and heartburn. Constipation – Continued relief when consuming a daily supplement of 500 mg/per day. Diverticulitis, Ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease – MSM benefits these conditions by acting as a natural anti-inflammatory agent to speed up healing. Parasites – heal symptoms from a variety of parasites such as giardia, trichomonads, candida albicans, and round worm. MSM is also beneficial in treating gum disease. MSM water can also be used as a mouth rinse or gargle to help eliminate odors, maintain healthy teeth and gums. A deficiency in sulfur or any of the amino acids, such as cystine, can result in color or texture changes in one's hair. Hair loss can also be attributed to this deficiency. If the deficiency is corrected, the hair will return to its normal condition. Sulfur keeps the hair glossy and smooth, and also helps keep complexion clear and youthful. MSM has powerful anti-inflammatory, pain reducing actions. MSM blocks the pain response in certain nerve fibers. It also reduces scar tissue by alternating cross-linkages which contribute to scar formation. Together these allow tissue repair and healing to take place. This is also true in treating burns. Research also shows that individuals suffering from chronic snoring have been treated with a MSM as a 16% water solution administrated to each nostril 15 minutes before sleep, significantly reduced snoring. , " CountryGirl " <ruthful@p...> wrote: > Hi Ocean Myst.
