Guest guest
Carol, Can you give us a nutrient breakdown of your bluegreen algae? I'm also curious as to where it grows/ where it's harvested? For some reason I thought it grew in a lake somewhere? Maybe I'm thinking of something else? Cheryl
Guest guest
Hi Cheryl – Yes, it grows in a fresh water Lake in Oregon. It’s harvested right on the lake and put in cold storage while on the boat. This is the breakdown. If this chart doesn’t show up good, you can go to http://tinyurl.com/g1iz and the chart is there. Guest guest
Barb, Well, it is different than eating it right out of the lake, because they are encapsulated. But even though it *looks* like a pill, it is really a whole food inside.  Carol Barb [barb1283] Sunday, July 06, 2003 4:05 PM To: RE: Healing Foods/Super Foods ....but is that the same as 'eating sea vegetables'... aren't they algae 'pills' barb --- Carol Minnick <carolminnick wrote: > Barb, > I think it's the aphanizominon flos aquae - > blue-green algae - that is > the most nutrient dense sea vegetable - check > this out - > www.bluegreensolutions.com > <http://www.bluegreensolutions.com/> - they > have the encapsulated bga. > Carol > SBC DSL - Now only $29.95 per month! http://sbc. «¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤«¤»¥«¤»§«¤»¥«¤»§«¤» NATIONWIDE DENTAL BENEFITS PACKAGE PLUS SAVE UP TO 80% on DENTAL, PRESCRIPTIONS DRUGS, GLASSES, CONTACTS, VISION CARE, & CHIROPRACTIC. $11.95 For Single or $19.95 For an entire household per month! Guest guest
Hi Barb, Alpha Sun is the whole, complete algae, for general physical health – it feeds the tissues and cells. It contains (in the cell wall of the algae) natural glycogen (complex sugars). Omega Sun is more for mental health. The difference is that with the Omega Sun, the cell wall of the algae is removed - it is more concentrated and has a larger proportion of amino acids which seem to provide many people with a more noticeable boost in mental function. It’s a good source of raw materials for building the neuropeptides which feed brain activity. I use them both – I think it’s a good balance. Guest guest
Barb, The sea vegetables that I use are: * Arame * Hijiki * Kombu * Wakame * Nori * Dulse * Agar-Agar These are whole foods and can be part of a regular whole foods meal. Food supplements that are made with sea vegetables are just that, processed foods that should be used as a supplement to a whole foods meal if you have a deficiency that it will correct. Heaven only knows what the manufacturing process has thrown in. Blue-green and green algae supplements, such as Cell Tech, Sun, Solgar, etc., are pretty much ground up whole algae, and are sold in tablet, capsule, or powder form. While they probably pretty complete, they cost a lot more than buying the above sea vegetables and making them apart of a meal. Recipes for cooking sea vegetables can be found in any macrobiotic cookbook. -- Donald E.
