MORE ON HOW HEALING COMES FROM WITHIN

In his The Medium, The Mystic, and the Physicist, Lawrence LeShan, PhD,, quotes William James:

"...our personal waking consciousness, rational consciousness, as we call it, is but one special type of consciousness, whilst all about it, parted from it by the flimsiest of screens, there lie potential forms of consciousness entirely different. . . No account of the universe in its totality can be final which leaves these other forms of consciousness quite disregarded. . . . They forbid a premature closing of our accounts with reality." (from Varieties of Religious Experience)

Dr. LeShan: " . . .the answer to my own ambivalence in adding this material to my book is that the essence of science is that you must at least act as if you are not afraid. You must follow where the data leads you and abide by the results whatever your previous theories, biases, or wishes. And if the data leads, as it did, against all my expectations and preferences into fields hitherto left to religion, I had to follow the material and report it as honestly as I could.

"The simplest and most basic statement of modern Western religion is the statement most often ignored - or at least misunderstood.

"The recurring theme "God is Love" appears to mean exactly what it says: that there is a force, an energy, that binds the cosmos together and moves always in the direction of its harmonious action and the fruition of the separate parts. In man, this force emerges and expresses itself as love, and this is the "spark of the divine" in each of us.

"When this force is acknowledged and reinforced by the culture, it is possible for human beings to relate harmoniously to themselves, to others, to the rest of the cosmos, and to move toward the most unique and awesome self-fulfillment.

"When this force is ignored or discouraged, the energy becomes blocked and distorted, and in all human history has been expressed in self-hatred, a hunger for power, materialistic greed and ultimately, as the dehumanization of our time makes clear, the real possibility of man's so disrupting the expression of his energy as to end his part in the cosmic design.

"It seems to me that the challenge to science, to man, to the human experiment is,

finally and irrevocably, whether or not man can accept that he is part of the energy of the universe and can function harmoniously within it through his capacity to love - infinitely."

The Medium, The Mystic, and The Physicist - Helios Press - is available at your bookstore. Dr. LeShan sees precognition, telepathy, and clairvoyance as impossible within the common-sense framework of sensory reality. Yet there is overwhelming evidence confirming these experiences. He shows how, in exploring the meaning of these unusual events, three radically different groups -- mediums, mystics, and physicists -- have all been working toward a description of reality that is essentially and strikingly similar.

Inevitably, as in all his books, Dr. LeShan again shows us how healing and health is directly related to the mind.

Drugs fix symptoms - while creating others, and they're needed in 'crisis' care. But fixing symptoms is not healing. Unless there's healing, when we stop the drugs, the symptoms return.

We need to remember Dr. Albert Schweitzer's observation, "The good doctor awakens the doctor within."

We appreciate that health is our natural gift from the Universal Intelligence and that 'mental noise' is what must be released.
