Guest guest
Does anyone have some experience or can point me towards some research concerning treating sickle cell anemia with TCM. I have a patient who occasionally has joint aching. Beyond that she seems very healthy. Nothing remarkable about the pulse or tongue, perhaps a little pale. She is in her mid forties. I am pretty clear about how to treat what I see but am looking for other information. In particular, I wonder about using Qing Hao given the malaria/sickle cell/aching connections. Guest guest
>>>Does anyone have some experience or can point me towards some research concerning treating sickle cell anemia with TCM<<< While doing research for my recent book on the Chinese medical treatment of hematological diseases (Blue Poppy Press), I and Chinese colleagues in China have scanned literally hundreds of recent Chinese journals for articles on various hematological diseases. In addition, I own several books on the Chinese hematology. However, I found only one single article on Sickle Cell Anemia in the Zhong Yi Za Zhi (#3, 1994, p.161). That article reported on the acupuncture and patent medicine treatment of sickle cell anemia. The author reported having lots of success using acupuncture for joint pain. Furthermore, similar to other congenital hematological diseases, sickle cell anemia can often be considered as a form of former heaven vacuity. For example, the doctor in the above-specified article used liver and kidney supplementing meds. As a rule, he suggests that the root is commonly a vacuity which is possibly complica! ted by such repletions as qi stagnation and blood stasis. One reason why there is so little on this in the Chinese language Chinese medical literature is that this disease is extremely rare in Asians (However, it is the most common type of severe hemoglobinopathy in North America!). Guest guest
In a message dated 7/16/2002 5:32:18 AM Eastern Standard Time, Chinese Traditional Medicine writes: I was at the acupuncturist today and she got very low readings of the chi test that she did for me. It was very low even 6 months ago, even though I feel much healthier now. She made a comment that I 'may be giving away chi' or that I 'need to learn techniques to holding on to the chi.' She wants me to take a supplement of trace minerals ( a product by Nature's Sunshine for building chi) for the next couple of months and then try this 'tsing' to jumpstart the chi. She feels my diet and elimination seem to be good. So, my question is: can anyone give me some advice or information on this as this is all new to me? Thanks. carlaroi Hello Carlaroi, The first thing I would wonder about this practitioner is how well versed s/he is in TCM diagnosis (giving away chi? Like Santa Claus gives away presents? Holding the chi, well let's not go there). I am not hearing any TCM diagnosis in this viewpoint, nor am I hearing that any TCM herbs and/or acupuncture were prescribed (Nature's Sunshine trace minerals?). So I would personally be skeptical about this whole picture. Just my personal view.
Guest guest
From what I understand, it is an MLM subsidiary of a non-MLM company. They're trying to launch a new MLM company that will keep their downlines intact. I sincerely wish them luck. It's going to be tough. Many of their leaders are already getting bombarded with solicitations from other MLM's.
