Easely, Director of the National Center for Fluoridation Policy and Research, and a sometimes ADA fluoridation spokesperson, and a member of the American Council on Science and Health is hardly neutral on the subject of fluoridation and he will be educating (indoctrinating) NYS water engineers about fluoridation. We have just received this e-mail (below) which indicates that he has suckered the NY State Department of Health into financing his propaganda machinery. We nned your help.Please plaster Governor Pataki with your outrage. At a time of massive budget cuts, NY taxpayers' money should NOT be supporting a man who does not have any affection for either truth or democracy. Letting this man educate anyone is like inviting Goebbels to teach at the local high school. Here are three crackpot statements (and my comments) from Easley:1) "Debates give the illusion that a scientific controversy exists when no credible people support the fluorophobics' view."So how would Easley explain the vote by the Basel parliament to abandon fluoridation on April 9 of this year, after 41 years experience of the practice?2) "Like parasites, opponents steal undeserved credibility just by sharing the stage with respected scientists who are there to defend fluoridation."Could you imagine the 2000 Nobel Laureate for Medicine, Dr. Arvid Carlsson (who successfully led the campaign against fluoridation in Sweden), stealing credibility from Easley? 3) "A most flagrant abuse of the public trust occasionally occurs when a physician or a dentist, for whatever personal reason, uses their professional standing in the community to argue against fluoridation, a clear violation of professional ethics, the principles of science and community standards of practice" (Easley, 1999).Comments like these led the associate technical director for Consumers Union, Dr. Edward Groth, to conclude that "the political profluoridation stance has evolved into a dogmatic, authoritarian, essentially antiscientific posture, one that discourages open debate of scientific issues" (Martin, 1991).This is the man who is going to be paid to "educate" operators of water supply systems in NY State.
