I like this list.... However, lately I've been downloading them into a folder

on my desktop, and I've gotten woefully behind on going through them. I don't

want to just delete them when I don't have time to read because when I do

read them I've gotten so much great information and referrals to other web

sites for yet more information. So because of that, I missed the post asking

for feedback. When the digest has too many posts for my aol, it's an

attachment, and the attachments are the ones that get downloaded into the

folder.

Because there's so much good really health-related info, I'd vote for no

strictly political postings. While I agree that it's health related and

stress related, there are many other groups and lists more suited to that,

and many I also receive. Check out moveon.org

Thanks for all the good work, Frank. I can't imagine how much extra effort it

takes to monitor and facilitate a group like this. Sure, there are lot of

posts I'm not interested in--- so I just scroll through them, acknowledging

that it may be just the thing someone else wants or needs to read.

Thank you!!

Why are we getting so much political

discussion on this list – isn’t there another list that this can be

taken to? I joined to talk about “health and

healing” – not president Bush.

Because, IMHO, health and politics are inextricably entwined -- especially now

that our government is of, by and for rich, powerfull corporations, the people

be damned.

I have to agree with the person who posted that they are concerned about

political talk, on an ostensibly health and healing site. But there two

sides to this issue. Just as Clinton made some political centrists, a lot

of conservatives, and nearly all right wingers sick, G. W. Bush is making

some political centrists, a lot of liberals, and nearly all left wingers

sick.

Health is not simply defined as physical, there is an extremely important

emotional dimension to health. But more than that, emotional health, can

affect, sometimes disastrously, our physical well-being. Democrats are

angry with a president and administration that turns a blind eye to funding

for health care, and contemptuously dismisses a desperately needed, " single

payer " medical system " as " socialized medicine. " Over 40 million people

have no health insurance.

I'll second that. While he may deserve it, there is probably a better

place for Bush bashing than here.

How could one avoid talking about “political

stuff” in a country, indeed, in a world, where medicine is defined by government.

Just as there are numerous lobbies wining and dining politicians for the

pharmaceutical corporations, there are also lobbyist groups doing the same for “alternative”

medicine.  Just not nearly as powerful, not nearly as generous in “gifting”;

much more rational in argumentation and presentation of scientific evidence; etc.etc.

As well, doctors of anything have to be licensed by the government; a massage

therapist in most states is also regulated, licensed, by the government

(Pennsylvania is an exception, that last time I heard anyways); government, or

at least its non-elected regulatory bodies (still political jobs) like the FDA

actually define what medicine is, what food is, what cosmetics and food

additives are, etc.  They decide what will and what will not be regulated and

how.  Actually, pretty much of all the issues start and end with government.

If people had their free choice to eat what they chose for their medicine (food

is medicine) or take the pharmaceutical medicines of their choice, whether such

medicines were experimental;  well-established; quackery; or just flat out

faith healing; or practice in Taoist witchcraft for healing:  then, government

would not be an issue.  If government by authority extraneous to the individual’s

own authority over his/her life would just go away, there would not be

political stuff to discuss, but, rather, various healing methods, or prevention

methods, would be the topic of education.

That would also establish a free

marketplace wherein if something didn’t work, it would not be promoted

anymore.  Until such a thing happens (and it doesn’t look like it is

going to in the very near future) food/medicine remains almost centrally a

political issue.  Wouldn’t want to be caught disobeying the law now would

ya?!

Well, we can compromise. Perhaps we can agree to allow for an occasional

reference to the political forces that influence health and health-care in

this country, as long as we don't dwell on it excessively, or allow it do

dominate discussion and debate.

Well, that’s true, but what I meant was,

can’t we get back to just talking

about --– I have arthritis, or what helps with warts, or my son has ADHD,

or my brother just came down with pneumonia – or whatever – and what can be

done “health-wise” to help with those problems.

The short answer is " no. " The long answer is, well, longer. There are scads of

similar groups that " ...just talk... about -- I have arthritis, or... " around, i

belong to several of them myself and i don't discuss these topics there. This

group however, as i understand it, is general in nature and has as valid subject

subject matter everything that has an effect on our health and well being. If

you don't think that getting out of office the scum that is killing us and our

constitution is directly connected to our health and healing, you're just not

looking at the whole picture.

There have been several members who entered this group and attempted to change

the subject matter. I see this as simply the latest such effort.
