Guest guest
Alpha Lipoic Acid & Acetyl-L-Carnitine"The End of Aging"As written about in Reader's Digest I'm sure many of you have read the exciting article in the Novemberissue of Reader's Digest titled "The End of Aging". Perhaps many of you have purchased the two nutritional supplements thearticle said could help slow or even reverse aging. This is indeedexciting news!! Here is a short overview of the article. Bruce Ames, a professor of biochemistry at University of California atBerkely, has been studying damaged genes and how they can cause cancer. He saw a link between the rise in cancer and the increase in freeradicals as we age. This caused him to wonder if there was a direct linkbetween free radicals and aging. What he found was that free radicals create a kind of cellular pollutionthat lowers our energy levels. Too much damaged DNA causes cell mutation– which can cause cancer – and also cell death. Both are signs ofaging.Through their research, Ames and his colleagues found a crucial linkbetween oxidation (a result of too many free radicals), DNA mutation, and age. He says free radical oxidation doesn't just rise with age –it causes aging! When mitochondria (tiny structures inside cells thatmanufacture most of the body's energy) "leak" free radicals, theradicals end up damaging the mitochondria, which then leak even morefree radicals. This vicious cycle gets worse as we get older – thusaccelerating our aging!Ames found that two very potent antioxidants, when added to the diets ofold rats, made them act much younger – the equivalent of an 80 yearold person looking and acting middle-aged! Ames said, " The (rats) brainlooked better and they were full of energy".Now You Too Can Benefit – Be and Look YoungerI know none of us want to look and act like rats, but there is no doubtthat we all – no matter if we're 40, 50, 60, 70, or 80+ - want to lookyounger and have more energy. More importantly, if we can lessen ourodds of getting cancer or other age-related disease, then we want to doall we can to help. The two nutrients that Ames used in his study, Alpha Lipoic Acid andAcetyl-L-Carnitine are readily available and provide many healthbenefits. Ames takes 200mg of Alpha Lipoic Acid and 500mg ofAcetyl-L-Carnitine twice daily. My Web Site:http://community.webtv.net/Yahwist/THEGREATMYSTERY
