Guest guest
Another Breast-Feeding Benefit (Reuters) - Mothers striving to decrease the risk of crib death should breastfeed their babies because it could offer some protection against sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), Swedish researchers reported. Although doctors are not sure what causes seemingly healthy babies to die in their sleep, scientists at the Institute for the Health of Women and Children in Gothenburg found that babies who are breastfed for four months or more are less likely to die from SIDS. There are many dental benefits to be gained from breastfeeding. We discuss them in our book, Healthy Teeth for KIDS - published by Kensington. Here’s Yet Another Benefit: Among the more than 32,000 young children researchers followed, those who had been exclusively breast-fed in early infancy were about 30% less likely to be obese than those who had been strictly formula-fed. The report in The Lancet suggests that breast-feeding has a "modest benefit" against obesity -- an idea that should be taken along with the fact that it has "lots of other benefits and no major disadvantages," said Dr. John J. Reilly of the Univ. of Glasgow.
