Guest guest
Why do most people have bigger lungs on the right? ---- A diagram of the lungs of a normal human shows that the right lung has three distinct lobes, while the left lung has only two. As a result, the right lung can hold more air than the left one. The reason for this difference is that the heart is on the left, and there simply is not enough room for a full-size left lung. The bottom third of the left lung is missing, leaving room for the capsule that protects the heart. The only people whose right lungs are not larger are those with a condition called situs inversus, in which all the organs of the body are mirror images of the normal arrangement. Those people have larger left lungs and their hearts are on the right. Guest guest
Great! I have a book somewhere that is a little old, about 'Variations in Human Anatomy and Physiology' that is also incredible reading for everything from glandular output to location and lengths of intestine and facial nerves.luckypig <luckypig wrote: Why do most people have bigger lungs on the right?----A diagram of the lungs of a normal human shows that the right lunghas three distinct lobes, while the left lung has only two.
