Guest guest
Lisa, As far as I know, there are at least two types of canker sores - one viral (herpes) and another one completely unrelated from the 1st one and is caused by something (the verdicts are still out on the cause of this kind). I get mine (the 2nd kind) from acidic foods. Mine does away when I stay away from acidic foods for a few days. There is a special toothpaste made for canker sores from Rembrandt, and some people swear by it. (Many people get canker sores due to Sodium Lauryl Sulfate in toothpastes and this Rembrandt product does not contain sodium lauryl sulfate.) From what I read, the herpes kind of canker sores tend to show up more on the gum inside the mouth and the 2nd kind inside your cheeks and what not. To determine if the sore inside the mouth is caused by Herpes Virus (HSV), you could go to a doctor and get a swab sample of the active lesion to be analyzed. If you don't already get cold sores/fever blisters(HSV) on your lips, you probably have the 2nd kind, is just my guess.
