New to whole food juicing

Hi Nancy,

The Vita Mix is a 'pulper' rather than a juicer. It is a high-powered blender.

While the Vita Mix can reduce just about anything to microscopic particles,

thereby ensuring you get the whole food, there are issues with heat and

friction destroying some of the more sensitive vitamins and nutrients.

A blender works well for pulping fruits and very soft vegetables. But for

carrots and other root vegetables, celery, and more, a slow-turning single

screw masticating type juicer like the Omega 8002 juicer works extremely

well, plus it doesn't heat up the food. I also use the juicer on 'pressing'

mode that just chews up the food without juicing, making it a good food

processor.

I use both a regular Oyster blender and an Omega 8002 single-screw juicer

daily.

The *best* juicing book that I've bought is " The Juicing Bible "

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0778800199/

In addition to having a huge number of recipes that use both juicers and

blenders, there's comprehensive sections on making your own nut milks,

frozen fruit desserts, and detailed descriptions of many healing herbs and

the medicinal properties of vegetables.

For example, I used the Juicing Bible earlier this week. I had started to

cough up small amounts of yellow gunk for three days in a row. I thought

" uh-oh, probable bacterial infection starting in my lungs " . So I looked

through the reference section of the Juicing Bible for herbs and vegetables

that were either anti-bacterial or expectorant. I decided to steep red

clover tops and licorice root in a small amount of just off-boiling water,

then adding it to a juice made from lots of carrots, 3 cloves of garlic, a

bunch of green onions, sunchoke root, and fennel, plus an apple for

sweetness. Within two hours after drinking this, everything cleared up and

I went to work without a hint of the cough. Amazing!

There's just way too much stuff to clean with one of those food

processors. I probably would never use it just because it would be a

pain to clean up. The vita mix, you just put water and a drop of dish

soap in the hopper and turn it on for a second and it's done.

yea I have the super 5000

very expensive

and as far as I am concerned not enough acessories

it is really good for making drinks

but for anything else the jar is just too big for

chopping many small ingredients to be cooked with or

eaten raw

anyway my mini cuisinart processor's cutting blade has

a crack in the plastic holder and the plastic

container and cover have cracks in them and so need

replacing $12 dollars for the cutting blade and $12

dollars for the container with cover makes 24 dollars

and purchased new list price $48 and sale price $28

dollars so what to do go for something a little bigger

with more accessories with more pieces to clean

well more than four
