Guest guest
- Tuesday, February 17, 2004 3:30 PM Urgent: John Ashcroft - Stay out of our medical records! I believe it is critical to get this stopped, whether you are pro or con on abortion -- it's a radical invasion of privacy, once he gets this passed, ALL medical information will be accessed, this is only the beginning. He is using the "abortion issue" when in reality iT is ALL MEDICAL RECORDS in my opinion. Please respond to Ashcroft on this matter, if you agree... Joyous John Ashcroft, Stay Out of Our Medical Records In an unprecedented move to intimidate doctors, hospitals and women who have had abortions, the Department of Justice has subpoenaed the abortion medical records of hundreds of patients around the country. Among the doctors whose records have been subpoenaed are those who filed suit to challenge the recently signed late term abortion ban as unconstitutional. These subpoenas are an appalling attempt to violate doctor-patient privacy and should be withdrawn immediately. Click here to take action! Considering he's an attorney and has never been to medical school, it's inexplicable that John Ashcroft thinks he can make better medical decisions than a doctor. The Justice Department argues that it must examine the records as part of its effort to defend the new law in an attempt to try to demonstrate, after the fact, that some of the procedures were not medically necessary. How is it that Mr. Ashcroft and a team of attorneys will be able to make that determination? Frankly, that's a decision for doctors to make, not attorneys or government officials, and decisions about medical care should remain between doctors and patients. What ever happened to conservatives demanding less government intrusion? Call on Attorney General John Ashcroft to drop his effort to subpoena the medical records of doctors challenging the late term abortion ban. His job is to ensure safety and justice for the American people, not intimidate doctors who disagree with the current administration or violate medical privacy. Click here to take action!
