RE: were to purchase Kelp?

Hi Elaine,

What are you going to use kelp for – your garden or your body? Either way, I would not recommend kelp. For your garden - because it is from the ocean, kelp has salt and over time there would be a build-up of too much salt in your soil. Salt is very detrimental to the microbes in the soil. Check here for a product that contains a fresh-water blue green algae and volcanic rock dust (ash) - http://tinyurl.com/d2zc

If it’s for your body, please consider the aphanizominon flos aquae (AFA). Kelp is considered to be a brown algae. AFA is a blue green algae so it has more chlorophyll, beta carotene, and way more nutrients all the way around. One of the main big differences is that AFA blue green algae has bioavailable vitamin B12 (meaning your body can use it). Other algae have an “analog” B12 (not available to the body) and may actually cause pernicious anemia. The majority of B12 in any other kind of algae can actually block true B12 – the analog gets stuck at the receptor site, and then the true B12 can’t get trough. AFA has an amino acid profile virtually identical to human blood and mother’s milk.

Also check and see how each product you are considering is processed. High heat will kill micronutrients, essential fatty acids, and enzymes. Most companies use some type of filler – so make sure you check that. Check the capsules (if it matters to you) – whether they are veggie caps or made from animal (gelatin). Check here for a really great blue green algae - http://tinyurl.com/g1iz

Kelp makes a good salt substitute.
