organically grown foods

Hi All,

I've been having discussions with my husband regarding organically grown foods

vs. conventially grown foods. I tell him that organically grown foods (are

supposed to) have no pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, hormones, etc. And

they're also supposed to have a higher vitamin/mineral content due to better

farming/soil practices. He doesn't believe that, so I need some " ammunition " !

Has anybody done a laboratory analysis on the vitamin/mineral content of

organic vs. " regular " fruits & vegetables? I'd love to find a website that

shows the differences.

Thanks,

Nicki Rosa

I haven’t done any lab analysis,

but tell him if you just think about it, it’s so obvious – the soils

are so depleted of nutrients, because the farmers just

kill, kill, kill everything. I bet you

wouldn’t even find earthworms living in the soils, it’s so dead. Years ago, farmers would

let one of their fields lie fallow for

a season to help renew itself. Now they

plant a field twice a year. Chemical farmers use chemical

fertilizers, chemical insecticides, and synthetic herbicides. How can that be good for you –

everything in the soil eventually ends

up in the plant that eventually ends

up in you. If there’s

no nutrients in the soil, there won’t be any in the produce, and

there won’t be any in you. Organic farmers use

natural fertilizer, insect traps, crop rotation, hand weeding. Organic is better for the environment. Organic tastes better.
