There are over 30 kinds of saponins in ginseng; they had been named as R0, Ra, Rb, ., and Rs. Each saponin has its specific medical functions. For example, Rh2 and Rg3 had been proven to control the growth and transfer of cancer. However, Re and Rg1 (which are the major components of ginseng) could promote the synthesis of DNA / RNA and the composition of protein. This could actually accelerate cancer cells' growth. Therefore, it is not a good idea for patients with tumor or cancer to take ginseng products. 3. According to Grandma's Chinese herbal Bible.
