Guest guest
Thank you to everyone who posted suggestions on how to deal with my Chrohn's patient, but in my last post I obviously did not make myself clear at all. I'm not stupid enough to suggest to anyone that they stop taking any of their medications. All I suggested to my client was that she work with her doctors to wean herself off of the steroids gradually, NOT quit cold turkey. I may be inexperienced, but I'm not a complete MORON either. What I meant was that my client has convinced herself that if she even decreases the dosage she will die, and that she can't EVER be free of the steroids. I don't buy that, but I'm no expert on steroids either - I just know that the side effects she's experiencing will eventually kill her unless something is done. If I wanted to give her herbs, I would have given her western herbs because that is what I know about, but I did not because I was afraid of what effect they might have on her. I have no intention of telling her to take anything by mouth until she at least cuts down on the medications she is on. However, I was curious to see what patent medicines might be applicable in a case like this - I had no real intention of telling her to use them - after all, I have no idea what anyone's qualifications are, or even if any of you ARE qualified. I wouldn't put a client in potential jeopardy simply because some total stranger on the internet said to try a certain patent medicine. As for referring her to someone else, I've already tried that. She was referred to me by her friend, whom I " cured " of migraines (I have my doubts, and have expressed them) and she said she doesn't want to see anybody else. I made it very clear that I feel completely out of my depth, but she says I probably can't do her any more harm. I hope she is right, but my confidence is at an all-time low. I have only been in practice for about six weeks, but in spite of my lack of experience and apparent stupidity, I am REALLY good at what I do. All of my clients (so far) who have had acupuncture before have said that I'm the best needler they've had, and they're all getting results. This particular case has just overwhelmed me, but according to what you've posted, I seem to be on the right track. But every system in this woman's body seems to be affected, and I just don't know if anything I do will help her. Thanks again for the suggestions.
