Guest guest
Hi all, I just graduated with my Masters degree in Acupuncture a few days ago. I'm awaiting receipt of my license from our state board and then it will be time to open my practice. I've decided to convert one room of my house into my treatment room and I'm hoping to be able to build my practice here. I like the idea of not being tied into a costly overhead, the greater freedom I'll have to work around my family life, and the ability to keep all aspects of my life integrated. I know there will be some challenges in setting appropriate boundaries and also in keeping a professional image in a home setting. I'd love to hear from others who are practicing on their home turf. I'm sure you'll have some do's and don'ts that would be helpful to me as I start out! Thanks, Liz _________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. Guest guest
Hello to everyone, and thank you for joining this list. I'm the list moderator, and just wanted to say a few words to everyone. I received some email about people advertising, and agree that this is not the place for it. I am an aspiring student of acupuncture-and do a bit of independent study on the subject and those relating to holistic healing. I started this list in hopes of learning from those who are more experienced in the field of acupuncture. Hopefully, people have benefited from this list, and will continue to do so, learning from eachother. Some topics I'm interested in include not only the theories and ideas behind acupuncture, but how people are doing with their own practices? Was it hard to start your own practice, and are their any pointers or advice one would give about it? Thanks for your time, and if anyone else has questions, do bring them to the list! Guest guest
Thanks, Al! Your ideas sound great and I'll definitely use them. You mentioned that you're just getting started too. How long have you been in practice? And, in what part of the country are you located? I'm on Long Island. I think within the next 5 or 10 years there will be many acupuncturists around. But we also have millions of people here on the Island, so hopefully it will balance out. Do you have an office separate from your home? And, are you working solo or with others? Hope you don't mind all the questions, but I'm happy to have a chance to " speak " with someone who's already out there doing it! Thanks, Liz _________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. Free software, free e-mail, and free Internet access for a month! Try Juno Web: http://dl.www.juno.com/dynoget/tagj. Congratulations! The best advice that I ever got in reference to building a practice was the most simple at the same time. Go out, do what you enjoy, bring business cards. The one to one contact of a practitioner to a potential patient is the best that I've discovered. And if you're out doing what you enjoy... oh, say sitting at the park while your children play... you're going to run into people who are like you and you'll have a natural affiinity for and understanding of their problems. Just a thought from someone who is also taking his first baby steps in building a practice. -- Al Stone L.Ac. <Allstone http://www.BeyondWellBeing.com Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional.
