Guest guest
Hello All, I think it is great that our friend Giovanni has peppered us with questions and helped us talk. I had been meaning to type a reply when Giovanni sent me a private note asking for some info on Five Element. Firstly I wanted to tell everyone that I have recently put up a website as a start to explain a little about Five Element. If anyone has the time to look at it and has some thoughts it would be greatly appreciated. www.acay.com.au/~gyemirva I have only studied 5 Element and have been practicing about five years. In my understanding over the last 50 years or so Chinese Acupuncture started to emphasise the external causes of disease, e.g. damp, cold etc and the style developed into a form that works with the syndromes that support herbs and stands by itself. ( This is really only my understanding - I hope not to offend and I would be happy to hear other opinions) Five Element is not just about the flow of energy between the Five Phases but believes that unless you are treating the element that is weakest (or that was most damaged through early childhood) you are treating symptoms. So through skin tone. voice, odour and predominate emotion you decide which of the Five element is most in distress. It is believed that by treating this element the whole Five Element system and all the aspects of the person improves. Through this process emotions may come to the surface and dissipate thus clearing the person off blocks held for many years and letting the person grow in spirit. Through this process presenting symptoms seem to clear. Enough of that. Has anyone heard of the Newman Cun Locater. They are plastic expanding rulers that show the Cun quite well. I still use a pair of dividers to check my location ( but that is my problem) All the best Gye

I missed some technicalities of the kind you started expounding here, but the format of you site is very good...pleasent... I have only studied 5 Element and have been practicing about five years. In my understanding over the last 50 years or so Chinese Acupuncture started to emphasise the external causes of disease, e.g. damp, cold etc and the style developed into a form that works with the syndromes that support herbs and stands by itself. ( This is really only my understanding - I hope not to offend and I would be happy to hear other opinions) geovani: So, you feel that in the past 50 years, Chinese Acup. changed focus? Very interessting. I feel that it makes sense indeed. The whole Chinese cultural, social, political scenary seems to confirm your thoughts. The political leaders of the recent years seem to feel disturbed by any non-modern-scientific approuche to anything. It became a kind of " modern-witch-hounting " paranoia/trauma. Five Element is not just about the flow of energy between the Five Phases but believes that unless you are treating the element that is weakest (or that was most damaged through early childhood) you are treating symptoms. geovani: Yes. In homeopathy, Hanemann called these underlying disorders as " miasmas " . So if these disorders are present, they should be faced... So through skin tone. voice, odour and predominate emotion you decide which of the Five element is most in distress. It is believed that by treating this element the whole Five Element system and all the aspects of the person improves. geovani: Here you are refering to an element......like.....the pairs Lung/Large Int. being metal? So you decide that if metal is weak.....then maybe you will focus on the metal pair? Through this process emotions may come to the surface and dissipate thus clearing the person off blocks held for many years and letting the person grow in spirit. Through this process presenting symptoms seem to clear. Enough of that. Has anyone heard of the Newman Cun Locater. They are plastic expanding rulers that show the Cun quite well. I still use a pair of dividers to check my location ( but that is my problem) geovani: What is a divider? Have a nice Sunday.... All the best Gye regards geovani
Guest guest
Hello Gye, Can you recommend any books about Five Element Acupuncture? Ewald.
Guest guest
Hi Ewald and everyone a good book on Five Element is Dianne Connelly's 'Law of Five Elements', which is carried by Amazon.com - it's a bit of a dry read, but does give you a clear sense of the elemental associations which we use so much in Five element practice. amanda
