Guest guest
Thanks to all that are writing at the moment - my two cents/pence etc. worth I don't think any 5 element Acupuncturist is saying that TCM people do not consider the Elements. It seems that they see them as the 5 Phases which seems to infer that they are looking at the movement between the elements ( which of course is important) as opposed to the weaknesses and personalities of the elements. It seems to me that the TCM people that I talk to learnt about the elements at college but will look more at Yin / Yang and the substances or the 8 principles as the basis of their treatment. To a 5 El. practitioner these are symptoms of a deeper problem at a emotional/ internal cause. I think it chooses to call itself 5 Element because that is the main tool of diagnosis In answer to someone's question on 5E pulse, point location, needling difference. 5 E looks first for blocks between meridians then only looks at the pulse to see how treating that person on their element is progressing through the treatment. That is if you have that persons element right all the pulses should improve not just the one you are treating - if not back to your traditional diagnosis ( which can take up to two hours! - don't I hate it when that happens.) Some of the 5 Element points are different. God knows why. Big example Liv 14 is under the ribs. I now use both but very confusing. Needling. 5 Element tonifys point. That is inserts, contact the Qi, tonifys and then immediately removes. Please have a look at my draft website on 5 Element if you are interested. I am currently expanding it to have more on the spirits of points. Double click here www.acay.com.au/~gyemirva All the best, Gye
