At least here in the USA from what I have seen. A student SHOULD be required to needle as many points as they can access on their own bodies ....hundreds of times. How else can you get to know what the patient generally will feel. Many points have their own different sensation such as thickness or thinness, etc. geovani> Is there any inconvenience, or possible side effects, in needling oneself? I agree that one should feel the more points one can in oneself.
Guest guest
geovani Inconvenience or not - as a student one NEEDS to learn. Would you want someone inserting needles inside YOUR body/energetics knowing they didn't have much (and in some cases almost no) experience at it from the patient's perspective? As to possible side effects - one would think that that's what the clinical supervisors are there for just in case. When I did my FIRST apprenticeship I was instructed to frequently use incense sticks (on my own) and feel all the accessible points on my body by bringing the heat within close range. Similar to the use of moxa. This also is NOT done or suggested at schools.
