In the 12/2/02 issue - the magazine FAILED miserably or purposefully to

address electronic code-set battle.

AMA/CPT has a very substantial 6 (six) codes for Integrative Medicine while

for allopathic medicine they now have over 8,000 codes.

Anyone want to e-mail NEWSWEEK about this gross failure?

--------

The public would benefit from your writing a Letter to the Editor of Newsweek

Magazine. Even only a couple sentences will make a difference. If you decide

to help, please do so no later than by the end of the day on Tuesday

(December 2, 2002), as the editorial deadline is quickly approaching.

You can find the cover story at http://www.msnbc.com/news/838318.asp?0nw=n2d.

Newsweek requests that letters be e-mailed to Letters, and that

the Subject Line be >December 2, 2002 - Now, 'Integrative Care'

--------------------

One e-mail letter that was just sent reads as follows:

Article by Daniel Crowley In the December 2, 2002 issue, Newsweek attempted

to address a few issues related to integrative healthcare and CAM.

The cover story mentions that AMA had a few CAM codes. It didn't mention that

CPT is totally owned by the AMA. It didn't mention that CPT codes

availaofficially under HIPAA code-set, CPT/AMA had 4 codes for Chiropractic

Physicians and 2 codes for Acupuncturists.

Furthermore the article failed to mention that The Foundation for Integrative

Healthcare and Alternative Link, Inc. have created over 4,200 codes that are

currently being considered by DHHS as a national electronic code-set standard

which has already been long approved by over 2.3 million nurses in the US

(American Nurses Asociation).

As you most likely do not realize, without a full set of CAM codes and the

resulting ability to track cost benefit outcomes and efficacy benefit

outcomes, integrative healthcare will continue to be an elusive goal and the

finacial failure of health care in the United States will not be avoided. If

a CAM provider cannot bill for a therapy/modality, they can't get reimbursed

for it and the 'proof' of the efficacy will never be available.

Why has the writer FAILED to include this huge battle that is ensuing in

Washington, DC?
