Guest guest
I've been reading through a book by Peter McWilliams called " DO IT! (Let's Get Off Our Buts) " (and no, that's not a typo). He reminded me of a VERY important distinction that most of us aren't aware of. Goals and purpose ARE NOT THE SAME THING. " What? " you say. They're not. So, what's the difference then? Simply put, your purpose is your basic reason for existance. Why did you choose to reenter earth's atmosphere? Why are you here? What PURPOSE do you have for living? What did you possibly hope to achieve by shuffling onto this mortal coil? Your purpose might be something like, " I am a talented healer. " That means you're here to heal people. You may have goals along that line, such as " My goal is to learn how to heal people using only pasta. " Hey, it's not a normal goal, but it's still in line with your purpose. Your purpose might even be " I am a gifted learner, " meaning that your entire purpose for being here is to learn. A goal along that line might be to attend every major University in the western hemisphere. Goals are guideposts to further your purpose. It kind of explains why I've been floundering about so much for the last several years. I don't know my purpose. But I'm working toward finding it. The great thing is that, in many ways, I've been fulfilling my purpose this whole time. But to fulfill it conciously and with full awareness? Ah, now that's the happy life. So, maybe that's why we have flukes in getting what we visualize. Perhaps a Higher Self works just a little harder to fulfill requests that are made ON PURPOSE. Perhaps goals that lead toward that greater purpose are just a little meaningful. Well, I hope this is useful to you all, and much discussion is very welcome, especially as to why this might have been posted in this particular group... Anyone? BTW, Peter McWilliams' books can be found free online at: http://www.mcwilliams.com/books/books/ Chad (yeah, yeah... Doc's wearing off on all of us...)
