Guest guest
Armour thyroid is a natural porcine thyroid hormone mixture--from a pig gland Synthroid is the T4 part of thyroxin, synthetic Cytomel is the T3 part. Some people have trouble converting T4 to T3; some people need one and not the other. When I took Armour for a couple years, I became seriously dehydrated, had dangerously high potassium. I had to go back on Synthroid. So, the "natural" may not always be better for everyone. I also do better on a lower dose than I was started on way back. The other part of thyroid function that should be measured is TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone). It will be low when you take supplemental thyroid meds because you don't need to have your system tell the thyroid to make more. There are also anti-thyroid antibodies that can make people unable to utilize thyroid (T3, T4) even though they have "normal" levels in their blood tests.
