Very good post. Let me give 2 very simple ones that work with very little practice. They work instantly with the " DOING " of them. Here they are... I think that Gary Craig, with his SET UP phrase while rubbing the lymphatics is also good and can be used WITHOUT doing the rest. " Even though I feel like crap, I totally appreciate and accept myself " . Also, Brian Tracy has people, before doing a sales call say to themselves, " I LIKE MYSELF! I LIKE MYSELF! I LIKE MYSELF! " , which does change their state into a very positive state.

But then...?>"Even though I feel like crap, I totally appreciate and accept myself". I detect some gratuitous "crap' here. Not from Doc, but from Gary. If you could reword this affirmation into a directed question to make it effective, how would You? As it stands, This "Affirmation", is more Gary Craig wishful thinking from a pre NLP era and adding some Head knocking. HOW? HOW? HOW? Why do I, should I, could I, "like myself"? Gimmie answers and solutions not B.S. affirmations. Gimmie a justification, a directive, not a wish. This verbal reassuring of worth is NOT accomplished by Intent alone but rather by YI. [directed intent, put into action.] Craig takes a bit of Energy Medicine, a bit of NLP and figures if he mushes these partial bits together he comes up with a "Technique?" If he would actually Study with Steve or Rex he might get it reasonably close. See Real NLPer Rex Steven Sykes from a generation ago about wishful affirmations at: http://www.idea-seminars.com/articles/affirm.htm "Even though I'm a piece of Shit, how am I a Good shit?" Pretty shitty, but at least it's a start in the right direction rather than a Craig negative reinforcement of shitty worth. " - Alexander Pope, Essay on Criticism (1709) Before criticising Gary, you might want to check your assumption that what he's doing is intended as an affirmation. http://www.emofree.com/faq/affirmations.htm Setup phrases in energy psychology have a different purpose to affirmations. Doc mentions how just rubbing the lymph can be enough to disperse the toxic energy associated with certain statements on the IDD tapes I think. For addressing and resolving PRs, Gary's language is much more effective than Rex's. And none of what Rex proposes in his article will have any effect until the PRs are addressed. --David Brandt

My resistance gets a bit Hyper when the Wishing and Magic begins on the self esteem front. Craig, I believe, has dumbed down what had promise by getting into this stirring the shit and dressing it as acceptance i.e. the "even though", shit. Why stir shit? It raises unnecessary stink. I still think that directive questions are much more effective. What do you think works best for evoking change? rusty - phillipmattingly Thursday, March 16, 2006 3:11 PM Re: Let me give 2 very simple ones that work with very little practice , lwinmorgan<lwinmorgan wrote:>> [ snip ]> > I detect some gratuitous "crap' here. Well, that is fair. Just standing in front of the mirror saying 'I love myself just as I am' is kind of the slow road to success. So we must search for effective drills. But, I am constantly surprised by what makes for effective drills. See, I used to " think " that crystals were a bunch of bullshit. But then, I started doing certain drills and dispassionately assessing the evidence, and lo and behold, what I " thought " wasn't correct. Similarly, I was initially trained as an Ericksonian hypnotist, so I " believed " that the direct hypnotists were doing it all wrong. Then I actually studied with some of them, did their drills without prejudice, and found that what I " believed " wasn't correct. And of course, I used to " believe " that the Silva method drills for remote healing were all fake until I did those drills with a woman and she correctly hit my friend's diabetes without any kind of prompt. All of a sudden, what I " believed " seemed a lot less certain. > Craig, I believe, has dumbed down what had promise by getting into this stirring the shit and dressing it as acceptance i.e. the " even though " , shit. > Why stir shit? It raises unnecessary stink. The simple answer is, study Craig's materials with an open mind and he will explain why. The more flexibility you have, the greater your chances of success. For an even more in-depth discussion of this particular topic, I would recommend David Feinstein's materials and the chapter in his book on psychological reversal. > I still think that directive questions are much more effective. Fair enough. But are you hallucinating this or do you have hard evidence? What would happen if you learnt Gary's materials and did a direct comparison? Either you prove yourself right or you learn a bunch of new ways to improve your life. Sounds good to me. > What do you think works best for evoking change? Hell, what a question. Look at the clarity model in the archives. That is key. The rest of it is just a debate about what to put in step 7. I do think that for many well-defined emotional problems, energy psychology methods are probably the quickest and easiest to use for most people. My approach would be: 1.) Put yourself at cause. 2.) Use the clarity model. 3.) Define your problem in terms of emotional blocks and erase them with energy psychology methods. 4.) Calibrate the results and repeat as needed. But that is very simplistic. One of the things I like so much about training with Doc is that he teaches a highly refind blend of NLP, hypnosis, alpha/theta brainwave, Huna, energy medicine, energy psychology and more. Each of these elements is strong in it's own area and they complement one another very well. All of them are necessary for different stages of the four-step success formula.
