Those are different situations. Ill effects can best be alleviated with a combination of self- hypnosis and energy drills. Using Elman hypnosis, go to a relaxed state of body, then a relaxed state of mind. Then focus your intention by going, " I'm going to count from 1 to 3. At the count of three I will be talking to the part of me that controls my health and my thinking abilities. 1...2...3...(snap your fingers). I feel sick. I don't want to feel sick. I want to feel health and clear headed enough to play my best. I do know that the following energy drills will clear my mind and my body of stress and help me play my best. I visualize myself doing the K-27's thump, the thymus thump, the Sp-21 thump, the belt line flow, the Connecting between Heaven and Earth, and the Wayne Cook posture successfully. " Now see yourself feeling better, feeling ready to do your best. 1...2...3...and that scene disappears from my mind. " Now I am going to count from 1 to 5, and be wide awake feeling much better, knowing that as soon as I reach beta I am going to do those drills. 1...2...3...on the count of 5 I will open my eyes, be wide awake, and get up and do those drills. 4...5...eyes open! Wide awake. Now stand up and do those drills. You can use the same type of self-communication for " no sleep " . At mind level of intention say, " I've no sleep and I feel like shit. I don't want to feel like shit. I want to feel find, to feel better than before. To Feel good enough to do what I need to do to win. So I'm going to count from 1 to 5 and on the count of 5 I will be wide awake, feeling fine, feeling better than before. 1...2...3...on the count of 5 I'll open my eyes, be wide awake and feeling fine. 4...5...open my eyes, feeling fine, feeling better than before. Now, when you get up from your sitting position, do 3 Fire Breaths and that will energize your energy fields starting at the Crown Chakra and flowing quickly through you to the Root Chakra...being sure to breath in deeply through your nose, and exhale quickly through your mouth. > Most chess calculation is done > subconciously, relevant variations just seem to " pop into your > head " . This was important, but since it's not really an integral part of where the poster actually came from, I'll ignore it for now. PLus I've written enough for this post. > However, when tired or ill this doesnt seem to wrok nearly as > well andone can even find that normal " thinking habits " are > myseriously suspended. > > So, the question I have is... is there any way of minimising the > damage to performance that poor physical condition causes? Yes. See above. >Avoiding playing when tired or ill isnt usually an option, most >games are part of team events. At the moment my solution to these >problems is " caffeine " - is there anything else one can do? Yes. See above. Black Coffee is good, and stimulates you. Coffee with sugar, sweet & Low, or cream is not good for you. Go with fresh black coffee. Alpha is good, but is not good for anything that takes action. If you use alpha or theta use it in the planning stages and the pre- programming success portions. Energy drills that hook up the mind and body in beta is best for action. something like doing the Wayne Cook just before action (playing) is best. While playing, just leaning forward on the table and putting your forehead into the palm of your left hand, as you use your right hand to move your pieces, will help to instantly relieve any stress. Stress causes 50% to 80% of the blood to leave the prefrontal lobes, the lobes you use for critical thinking, strategies and tactical thinking. Just putting your hand there will cause the blood to refill the prefrontal lobes and give you back your thinking abilities. And... Watch your negative self talk, ie, " I can't think because I'm sick " and similar negative programming. Use instead, " even though I feel like warmed up dog turds, I can still think great and play great. I am good. I know what I'm doing. I can do this! " , then continue playing. > One unrelated question; I once read in some Abe-Hicks material that > when one enters a state of meditation one often has sudden twitches. That is the 3rd eye actually opening and expanding. >This was quite scary - warm relaxed and > concentrating is one thing, " where's my chest gone? " is quite >another! Anyone have any explanations? Normal, and good that you are actually staying awake while deepening into your theta state. You need that bridge of awareness, or you can never go past simple hypnosis. You want to be wide awake while at theta so that you can reason with and think through what you are actually working on with both brain hemispheres at a level of mind that can pick up from the subjective dimension the information and the facts that you need.
